A little over 2 months post op
Well I'm a little over 2 mos out. I'm down about 50lbs. My energy level has picked up considerable. I'm not exercising as much as I should yet. I'm joining a new gym on saturday. I am having a problem with throwing up. I didn' t have this problem in the beginning but as i begin to try new foods I am encountering some challenges. I am so totally sick of the protein shakes and trying to make up the protein with food choices. However, I had a nervous stomach before surgery and this is proving to be a challenge. I'm afraid i'll stop losing weight if i can't keep the food down. Any suggestions?
Hi Sherry,
How about 'soft' food choices like cottage cheese, tuna, etc. I am almost 3 1/2 years post op and I still depend on at least one shake per day (and my dr says 2 per day for life, but that is his protocol for his patiets .. each dr has differing ideas on nutrition) to meet my protein requirements. I had problems about 5 to 6 months post op with an esophageal stricture and as a result I think that the opening into my pouch is abnormally narrow and as such I have a lot of problems with dense foods which makes meats difficult for me. I do try though and have luck sometimes and not so much luck other times.
Best wishes as your WLS journey continues. You are on the ride of your life.

Comparison is the thief of joy!
If we spend our time comparing our life/weight loss/body to others, we totally miss what WE have accomplished. Keep in mind how far you have come and what you can do now that you couldn't do weeks/months/years ago. I hate the expression " It's all good", but in this case it fits! Wherever you are in your journey ... It's ALL good!!!
Tuna is also one of my no way not going to eat it items. I had my first serious dumping from tuna. DVR thinks it is because they must have added sugar to the tuna salad.
Have you tried some seafood? I like to pick up some premade seafood salad at the seafood deartment in the grocery store. I can eat a tablespoon or two of it with something else. High in protein and not too hard on the pouch.

Hi Sherry,
I'm still a couple weeks pre-op, but I've been using shakes as a meal substitute and can relate to them getting old. Have you tried any of the protein powders that can be sprinkled on food? There is also a wide selection of protein waters on the market now.
What sort of exercise program are you planning?
