Hi everybody, I have a cuple questions. 1. I am 4 months out and my hair is falling out like crazy.  I know it is not protein that is causing it because I get way over what is reccommended, I am taking vitamin's twice a day and extra biotin....any ideas???  I know I need to sat something to my doc, I see him next week just waondering if youguys have any ideas before I go bald :) 2. Is anyone out there single and finding it hard to date and if you are dating how do you explain, when your out to eat, why you are eating so little?  I know I need to tell thr truth, but I was wondering how other people tell and when should I tell them???? 1st 2nd or 3rd date? Thanks Jen

Well Jen -- the hair loss will come to an end. As far as the dating -- tell them when you're comfortable -- besides you can always take what's left over home.  We do that and eat off it for 2-3 days.

The hair loss is a result of all the trauma your body has been through i.e. surgery, anesthesia, forced malnutrition, etc. Keep that protein up and it should stop.  I am single. I don't have a problem telling anyone about my surgery. I am proud that I have taken control of my life with this surgery. I will tell anyone in a heartbeat about how I have saved my life. So far, no one has given me an unfavorable response when I explain about the amount of food or the types of food that I eat.  Good luck!

Hi Jen, When I went for my six month checkup, my surgeon's nurse noticed my hairloss right away.  She mentioned to me then that the hairloss is pretty standard from 3-6 months.  Mine did tail off after that and I'm happy to say that by the time I was 12-15 months out from surgery, my hair was back to where it had been prior to surgery (it was thinning prior to surgery anyway).  Now the really thinning hair is just a bad memory.   I have always been fanatical about getting my protein in, so it couldn't have been from lack of protein.  I agree with Aime, I think it has to do with the trauma and the sweeping changes in your body post surgery.  Just make sure you're vigilant about getting your supplements and protein in every day.  It really is important and not something to take for granted. As for dating, I starting dating a great guy about 8 months ago (when I was about 18 months post op so I could eat more than someone who is newly post-op).  I didn't mention having WLS on the first date, but by the 3rd or 4th date, he had to notice that I didn't eat that much.  I felt comfortable enough with him at that point to explain that I had lost alot of weight and why.  He's kind of heavy himself (I prefer bigger/taller guys, always have).  He was very understanding about it, but I don't think he realized just what I looked like prior to weight loss because when I recently showed him a picture he said "Wow".  Talk about a "safe" response...hehehe.  I don't blame him..I look totally different now than I did then.  Yet, those close to me look at my before pic and say "I don't remember your face looking like that".   I think when you've met someone you're comfortable with you'll know when to share it with them.  If they don't respond in a positive manner that you're happy with, that  may or may not be your que as to whether you want to continue your relationship.  You'll know when the time comes.   :-)  Try not to fret over it.

Take Care,
Terry

Hi Terry (Theresa?), After meeting you at the support group, you're quickly becoming my hero.  Your advice (and posts in general) are always the greatest and I am so envious of the way you stick to the post-op rules all the time. See ya next month. --Eric

HI Eric, Thank you for the compliment, but I think you have me confused with someone else.  I am Theresa...hehe, but those close to me call me Terry.  Are you thinking of Tia (Theresa) (AKA the other purple princess?) hehe.  She attended the picnic back in July.  I haven't attended any formal support group meetings in awhile.  I get all the support I need from the good folks on this board and also my friends/family.  :-)  I'm very blessed. Anyway, you're doing great and I know you may think you're not that far down this WLS road, you have lots of good advice to give out to folks too.  I know you usually give great answers/support to those on here too.  That's what it's all about, we're all in this together and we've all been there so those of us that are further along should help those that are new.  Okay, I've ran my mouth..er, my fingers enough for now... Have a great day!

Take Care,
Terry

Jen,    Your not going to go bald. I to had to same problem. I just cut my hair short and bleached it. I ended up liking it so much that the other day I had it cut again.... It will come back in no time. Oh I had bought 2 wigs and ended up never wearing them. You will do fine . It is a little scary tho.... . Ellie
