WE Have Lost One of Our Own
I read the article and even left a post. It worries me that people will blame the surgical procedure and not that it was a complication of surgery. All surgeries bring a risk.
If you are new, please don't think it was wls that was at fault. Remind yourself of the many many people here in your own back yard that have been given a new opportunity for life as a result of wls.
I am sorry for her family and friends.

The love of my OH Family has me humbled!!!!
Aime, thank you for saying that. I too am sorry for all those who loved her. I do remind myself that the life I am leading is full of health risks, and surgery is just another one of them. The chance of it helping far outweighs the chance of it hurting. Someone with any heart conditions is a very poor surgical candidate. There was a woman at my group appointment with Sloan the other day that was told she could only have the lap band because of her heart conditions. I have been told by my PCP that I am excellent health, except my weight, and am an excellent candidate for surgery. I trust him, and therefore will continue on my current path.
Hugs!

Aime, this is so true. A blood clot can be a complication of any surgery and even young, healthy, non-obese persons can get them. My BIL had a septoplasty (non-cosmetic nose job) a few years back and had a blood clot. But for the intervention of my very alert sister, *****alized there was a problem and called an ambulance, he would have died. He was right around 40 at the time and in great condition. A year later, I had the same surgery, and 300-lb me with loads of dangerous co-morbs breezed through it with nary a problem. Anyone can get a blood clot. It's not "caused by WLS."
