1st appt with surgeon
I had my 1st appt with Dr. Gandsas yesterday - DH was supposed to go for his own appt, too - but had to work. I found him quick but thourough and he said that I am a good candidate for WLS. I would like the gastric sleeve but he is not sure if United Healthcare will cover that one in particular. I was given a packet of everything that I need to do pre-surgery...EKG, upper GI study, sleep study, etc. I also had my NUT appt yesterday and my psych appt today - all painless!
The insurance lady at the office is on vacation until Monday and the woman who was covering for her thinks that I may not need a 6month supervised diet for UHC - but I will not know until Monday. I have already seen my primary for the past 2 months in preparation.
One funny note...I have always thought that I was 5feet 4 inches - (well maybe 5-3.5), but when they measured me yesterday they kept coming up with 5-2! I'm shrinking in all the wrong areas!
My best to everyone!
kb...I know exactly how you feel. I always said I was 5'6"-5'7". When I got measured I was 5'5". I even went to get a bone density test because I knew I lost some height when my pants got a little longer. My bones were fine but I did have both of my knees replaced in 2004. I guess that has something to do with it. Plus.....I am 54 years old.

Hi KB
I LOVE Dr. Gandsas, he did my sisters surgery 3 years ago and she is doing great. I am having surgery on 9-10-07 and just cant wait. Yes Eileen is on Vacation this wee****il Monday, I would give it till Tuesday to hear from her, she is a busy lady. Eileen knows her stuff though. I was told I had to wait six months and I am having surg in 3months from my first appt. If you can get a couple doctors notes to recommend you for the surgery and get your phych. done, that usually give Eileen enough to work with and you might not have to wait. Best wishes and let me know how you are doing. I am hear if you have any questions.
Hugs Kristen
