Pre-op liquid diet... HELP!

HI, I just found this website and am so thrilled to find a support group. I am scheduled for LAP bad surgery on 8/22. I am on day 5 of the pre-op liquid diet. Does anyone have any advice on how to get through the next month without going crazy? The hunger pangs have been bearable, but I feel so weak and tired and cranky. I feel like I can't get out of bead and function at work and I am yelling at my daughter :(    Does your body adjust to this? Any feedback would be wonderful! THanks! Karen

Karen, first of all welcome to the MD board.  My advice would be to keep your eye on the prize!  Keep your hands, mind and body busy.  Remove stressors and pick which battles deem worthy at this time.  Tell daughter that you're sorry!  Hopefully she's old enough to under stand that you're fighting a terrible enemy right now - food.  You're an addict who has had their "fix" taken away.  For the tiredness, any chance you could add an extra protein drink?  Keep us updated and I wish you the best.  Surgery will be here before you know it.  One day at a time. Welcome Karen.  I would also suggest that you drink more protien.  Also if you have not started already start the multi-vitamins.  They will also help with the energy.  The 22nd will be here before you know it and then you won't want any foods.  Good luck and keep up the good work.

Ditto what the other Karen said.  Make sure you are getting enough protein, and if you are using off the shelf protein drinks, check to make sure the carb count is very low, and that it has no added sugar (milk sugar from skim milk is usually ok).  And drink lots of water too.  Start your vitamins, iron and calcium too.  Just a week to go!  You put up with ANYTHING for a week!

THanks to everyone for the words of encouragement! Today was easier. I keep trying to remember that it is only another wee****il surgery. After surgery, is it easier to cope with? I am taking lots of vitamins and water, so far so good.  I am going to try really hard not to be cranky with my daughter :) She is only 4 so she doesn't understand a whole lot about putting her own needs on the back burner for a little while if I need a break. But her hugs and kisses everyday help me anytime I am down.  Thanks for the advice!
