Hello! I'm new here.
Hmm, I'm thinking about how I should introduce myself.
Well for starters i'm only 17 and I'm considering the lap-band surgery before I go off to college. I found this site through my mom. She has had the gastric bypass surgery. I've come here to learn about the Lap-Band surgery and i'm hoping to ask question and receive answers to most
Well I'm going to stop rambling and ask my first question.
How long did it take you to lose at least 15 pounds with the Lap-Band?
Hello and Welcome!!! I have not had the Lapband I had RNY but my daughter had the Lapband and has been very successful with it she has lost 80 pounds in 10 months. The is another here who had Lapband who could probably answer your questions but you may also want to go to the Lapband Forum to ask some questions. Best of luck on your journey!!

First of all, welcome to the board. You've come to the right place for answers. Unfortunately, I can't answer your question because I don't have the Lab Band. However, I did have the VBG with Sleeve, which is similar in the sense that I do have a band. On my official Day 10 weigh-in, I had lost 18 lbs. Please keep in mind that not everybody is the same.
I woud really suggest that you go out and attend the required seminar to learn more about the Lap Band and about other bariatric surgeries in general. It sounds like your mom can help. The first thing you learn is that you don't just choose a type of surgery so much as the surgery chooses you. I originally wanted the Lap Band but after learning a lot more and discussing it with my surgeon I decided that the VBG with Sleeve would be best for me.
The surgery you get is really based on what type of eater you are. The Lap Band is a restrictive surgery for people who are what my surgeon calls "bloaters." Bloaters are people who eat three meals a day but eat very large meals. If you eat a lot of sweets (cookies, candies, cakes, ice cream, etc.) or eat a bunch of small meals per day you will not lose weight with the Lap Band.
I would never try to tell anybody what type of surgery they should or should not have. I am not a doctor. However, I will tell you that your best weapon against the weight is not the surgery... It is your knowledge. If you're going to have WLS, please be sure to get the right one.

Hi Heaven!! Welcome. Eric made a good suggestion. Does the surgeon that performed your mom's surgery do the lap band? I would start there. The only thing that I may want to give you a heads up on is that I have heard that surgeons won't do any procedire on someone under 18.
Nice to meet you.
