I am looking for information on any studies on obesity where there looking for ways to treat it and for obesity clinics to help with my health problems. I just got approved for SSD and start getting benefits in August but I dont have any health ins and medicare will not kick in for 2 years and SSD keeps sending these back to work info. I don't think the goverment gets the true meaning of the problem of obesity how can you even think of returning to work with health problems. I am around 600lbs and can hardly walk and have great pain in both leg and i can not drive and I get out off breath after walking a short distance. and my legs swell a great deal. I would like to talk before the senate or house hearing on healthcare in this nation cause more and more ppl are without true care everyday but we pump billions into saving lives over in other nations how about helping here at home also.

Gary, There is a live in Obesity Clinic in Ohio (Cleveland I believe).  It may even be called the Cleveland Clinic.  It is frequently featured as the backdrop to shows on Discovery Health Channel and TLC.  Also, there is a similar facility in NYC called the Brookhaven Obesity Clinic.

Hello Gary, Wouldn't you get Medicaid with the SSD.  My mother had medicaid with SSD.  You should call SS and ask them about the state health insurance.  My mom got it automatically with SSD. I don't know if it is different over here because we lived in NY at the time. I want to wish you all the best in your journey to restoring your health.

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

Her Her!! I support you. I hope you are able to wage your battle. I think more and more people are becoming awae of the ill effects of obesity. I heard on the news last night how they ae trying to make restaurants post the nutrition information for the foods they serve.

Gary, Are you receiving Social Security Disability (amount based on your earnings) or Supplemental Security Income  - SSI (State derived amount)? If you are are receiving Disability, you are correct about having to wait 24 months before entitlement to Medicare.   However, if you are receiving SSI, you should qualify for Medical Assistance through the State of Maryland. Finally, depending on the amount of Disability you receive, one may also be eligible for SSI.  Clear as mud isn't it?   Barb
