Drain Tube ???

Hello All~ I have been lurking on the main boards and have seen people talking about their drain tubes. Can anyone tell me what this is and which procedure you will need this ? I'm having the RNY open, will I need one of these?  Also, can anyone recommend a good book about WLS w/ recipes included ? I was looking to buy the Real Skinny on WLS. Has anyone read this one? Christina, I think it all depends on the surgeon whether you have the drain tube or not. I have seen where someone people who have had the RNY have the drains and some who have not. Personally, I had open RNY almost 2 years ago and did not have the drain tube. So that may be a question to ask your surgeon.  As for books with recipes, I can't remember the name of the book I read, the only thing I can remember is the cover was pink ( I think) and a good book with some decent recipes is the one written by Carnie Wilson. But you can also find some wonderful recipes online too.

Welcome to the MD forum and I am glad you have decided to post.  As for a drain tube I believe that all depends on your surgeon. You can call and ask.  I have noticed that open RNY patients do not get drain tubes but I could be wrong.  I bought a recipe cookbook for WL patients and I will give the name when I go down later and get it.
