2 Days Out Now!!

I got home yesterday and feel okay.  I think I'd feel a lot better except for the fact that my doc found and fixed a hernia while he was doing the surgery.  It's pretty painful to get in and out of chairs.  I read one woman's post who said she felt like she was 100 sit-ups sore and that pretty much describes how I feel.   I don't want to be too groos but the nurses at the hospital kept asking me if I had passed gas yesterday.  I kept telling them no and, although they didn't seem overly concerned about it, they kept asking.  Now that I'm home and did pass gas about midnight last night, I feel a lot better.  I kept having a lot of phlem come up from my lungs and I swallowed a lot of air trying to deal with it.  I'm hoping after a couple more "passes" I'll feel even better than I do now.  Always a guy!  My wife has been incredibly great!!  She's been helping me like you wouldn't believe.  I couldn't do this without her. My big problem is that I'm not drinking as much as I thought I would be.  I've been sipping water and Isopure but only in very small quantities.  I'm still trying to feel out how much IO can and can't take. However, I've been urinating  about 300 cc's each time I go.  It seems to me that if I continue on this path that I'll soon be in trouble because the output will be greater than the intake.  To help make up for this, I was up at midnight drinking as much as I could handle and it's 6 am right now and I'm doing the same thing.  Since I've had my IV out, I've probably only had about 25-35 oz of liquids.  I know I need a lot more than that.

Best wishes for a very speedy recovery!!!  And do sip sip sip ... that fluid is so very important.

Hugs, Mo

P.S.  It's nice to see a 'face' to go with the name too!

Comparison is the thief of joy!

If we spend our time comparing our life/weight loss/body to others, we totally miss what WE have accomplished.   Keep in mind how far you have come and what you can do now that you couldn't do weeks/months/years ago.   I hate the expression " It's all good", but in this case it fits!   Wherever you are in your journey  ... It's ALL good!!!

Hi Eric, Congrats on your surgery. I was on a liquid diet for the first 10 days. My doc had me drinking two ounces then wait 15 mins and two ounces again. I was allowed water, tea, Crystal Light, etc. My hubby was a great nurse and took great care of me too. :-) Good luck with your recovery. Wanda

Thanks to everybody.  I'm still sipping!!   I was able to make the leap with the picture.  The beard isn't there anymore, though.

Welcome home! I'm sure that in a few days you will begin to feel better. Right off the bat, I think just making sure you are sippping something all the time is the key. Amount right now shouldn't concern you. You are still healing. Just sip sip sip and walk walk walk. Glad to see your face!! Aime

Hey Eric -  Glad to hear everything went well and you're feeling (relatively) well.  Trust me, I think the first 4-6 weeks are the worst.  After that, it'll all be a distant memory.

Walk, sip, repeat - that's the best advice I can give you.  And remember, your body is probably saying WTH did you do to me????  Just take it one day at a time.  I'm glad your wife is being such a support - family help/support does make all the difference. Take care, Tia

So glad that your home and recooperating.  Sounds as if your wife is a gem - not only for helping you, but for putting up with your "gas" situation.  Too funny!  Don't stress about amounts right now, but always work at getting in more.  As time goes by, the amounts will get closer to what is expected of a post-op.  Take it easy, do as the doc says, and keep a positive attitude.   TraciL
