Finding a Surgeon

I originally was going to see Dr. Michael Schweitzer at john hopkins in August.  I just found out my insurance company (BCBS Carefirst PPO) that I need to go to someone in network.  Does anyone know how I find surgeons in newtwork for BCBS? I have to start this all over again...fun fun ;)

Thanks,

Ann

Hi Ann,  Welcome to the MD forum. Dr David Von Rueden at GBMC takes that insurance. He has been nothing but an excellent doctor to me so I recommend him highly.  The post op care I get from him is awesome. Best of luck in your journey and keep us posted!

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

If you have access to your insurance companies website -- there might be a list there or ask your primary care physician. I too used Greater Baltimore  with Dr. Von Rueden.

Personally I have Aetna.  But a friend of mine had Carefirst BCBS and had her surgery done at Sinai like I did.  Check them out at Lifebridgehealth.com and call and ask them if they take BCBS.

Unfortunately, the provider directories on CareFirst's web site don't list the category of "bariatric" surgeons.  Your best bet is to do some research online and then call the doctor's office to find out if they accept your insurance.  I, too, have CareFirst's BluePreferred PPO.  And I am seeing Dr. V, along with most of the other people responding.  I'd highly reccommend him and the C.O.M.P. program at GBMC.  They have such a comprehensive pre- and post-op program!

Thank you all so much for your many HELPFUL responses! I am doing research on the ones you sent me and I appreciate your input.  It can be so frustrating to start the process over and over and over.  This would be my third attempt and I just wish I could get past the first stage!!! lol Anyway, Thank you all again!!
