Hi!   And welcome to the board.   I had the Duodenal Switch (DS) 10 mos ago, and am down 156 lbs. and still still losing.  Would I do it again??? IN A HEARTBEAT!!!   I feel that I have my life back.  I still would like to lose another 50-75 lbs., but if I didn’t lose another ounce I would be okay with it.  I’ve had a very easy recovery with no complications.  I eat small meals 4-5 times a day, and am careful to always get enough protein.  I also take my Vitamins and Calcium religiously.   Do your homework, and find the surgery that feels like a good fit for you.  And be certain to check out the DS.  It is the only WLS known to CURE Type I diabetes.   You would be more than welcome to visit on the DS board.  They are a great group over there---and very knowledgeable.   Good luck!

thanks to everyone, you all really helped me alot.  I was on the fence, but am now going to meet with the surgeon at the end of the month.  I'm hopeful that i can get off of the medicine and the shots, and that I won't have to hide out in my house.  I'm presently 252 lbs on a 5'2" frame.  the low self esteem is horrible, and my ex didn't help at all.  I'm grateful for everyone's input and I'm hopefully on my way to a new life.  Julie

My name is Beth and I don't post here a lot as I am in the Lap Band group most of the time. I had Lap Band on 9/18/06 and I have lost 60 pounds. Surgery for me was an easy recovery and I feel so great now. I didn't want major surgery and thought that I would do well with the band. But, it's not for everyone. You really need to do your research and see what fits best for YOU. Also talk with your MD that usually are very helpful with that as well. Best of luck to you. All of us on the losing side are happy with whichever WLS we chose. Take Care.

Hi Julie - I am hoping to have weight loss surgery and am doing some of the tests and the 6 mo physician supervised diet right now.  I also live in North Beach, MD - which is only a few miles from you, if that. I saw where the Southern MD group was going to meet at Ruby Tues in Prince Frederick on Aug 4 at 2 pm.  I am really going to try to get to that - maybe we could meet then?  This website - Obesity Help.com - is incredible.  There is a lot to learn, but so many helpful people to help you figure things out. I hope to meet you soon Julie - Jane in North Beach
