Protein question
Are there protein sources that are chewable as opposed to drinking them????? I am a trooper but I have to say, I am more nervous about the shakes then the blenderized meals.
Also, I have another question............................. if you are to wait to begin taking medications, what about my blood pressure and other meds I take everyday????? I know I am not cured but my arthritis medication is taken with a stomach med because of how hard it is on the stomach lining.
By the way, to all the southern Maryland people.....LaPlata here!

Hi Jen. Outside of food sources for protein, your best option for a chewable protein would be a protein bar (not immediately after surgery though). A lot of us on here like Pure Protein bars. They are at Walmart, Target, Walgreens, etc. and not expensive. I like the Chocolate Deluxe the best, but I haven't tried all the flavors yet. For protein powder I like Body Fortress in chocolate. Walmart has it but I don't use it much since I don't have big protein needs (I'm Lap Band). Also there are some tasty drinks at the grocery store now. I have found some near the produce but cannot think of the name!!!
Thanks for the input. I am gathering as much information as I can to be as informed as I can as I have just started the journey for life. I think the thing that gets to me as I used to give these liquid supplements and in some cases mixed the powders of patients and I guess the smell just lingers in my head. so for me, it is trying to find something that I can use after the surgery that would suit the purpose. I have had a protein bar from my workout days before the knee went and I must say it was very good. I think the calories may be a bit high but it is something to consider when allowed to do so.
All this information is wonderful!!!!!

Hey Jen, I understand about the smell getting into your head. I work in a hospital. But I have found some that are really good and have virtually no smell when compared to those protein powders you are reminded of. I did a big taste test sampling and have it posted on my profile page. Take a look. A couple of them are incredibly good. I just hope they continue to taste good to me after my surgery. LOL. Good luck to you. Jo
Thanks.
There isnt enough strawberry flavoring on the planet to make that stuff smell yummy. I will certainly take a look. I am wondering about the Profect stuff I see on this page. Do you know anyone who has tried it. I looked at it and with a serving of 3 ounces and 25 grams of Protein how bad can it be????????
hmmmmmmmmm

They key to the protein shakes is to drink them cold. When they warm up they start to have that taste to them. I have used the profect. Alot of people mix them with water as they are thick and actually sweet. I also learned a valuable lesson one day after drinking one. You can dump from high concentrations of protein.
I think looking for the perfect protein supplement is the quest we all have that is on going. I am looking for a new type currently. I don't really like the powders because I am often in a rush and don't get around to making the shake. I like Adkins Atvantage. The strawberry is pretty good by the way. One thing to do is to check out the sites that sell protein powders and see if they sell samples. That way you can try them out first.
There are a number of recipes on OH related to making things like Protein Balls etc. Test and try.

The love of my OH Family has me humbled!!!!
I never was a shake drinker so I went searching the internet for protein supplements.
I found Ny Whey protein bullet: 42 grams in a 3 ounce liquid. I need to water it down though.
I also found isopure protein water: 20 grams I also water this down. The Nuwhey comes in
a couple flavors: I like the grape: I pour it over shaved ice.
Hope this helps
