How much time in the hospital?

Okay, it looks like I'll probably do the lap band rather than the RNY.  So, how much time did you have to spend in the hospital after sugery?  I'm particularly interested in Hopkins Bayview. I'm hoping that I won't have to go home the same day, like some people in the lap band forum. I had a septoplasty/sinus surgery in 2005 and went home the same day.  It was not a good idea.  Scared DH to death when they told him at the surgery center to "just call 911" if things started to go downhill.  I always feel really bad for a couple of days after general anesthesia, and I've had lap surgery before and know that I get really sore.

Although I had a RNY, I also had Dr. Schweitzer. He will not release you unless he is sure that you are okay. I was feeling great and wanted to get home, so I was only in the hospital a little over 24 hrs., but he asked me if I was sure that I felt alright and wanted to go home. All of my stats were perfect, so he said it was up to me. You've got a great surgeon, so there is no doubt that he will put your health first. The nurses at Hopkins Bayview are great ~ they couldn't do enough for me! They check on you constantly and go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable. I can see why they are a Center of Excellence. Have you met with Dr. S yet?

Yes.  He seems like such a nice man.  Heaven knows, he has a great reputation as a surgeon, which is what I care about, but he seems like a kind soul, too.

I met with the nurse at Bayview for my pre-op anesthesia clearance yesterday.  She told me that the stay for Lap Band patients is usually 1 night  and laproscopic RNY's is usually 2-3 nights, but it all depends on how the individual patient is doing.   Good luck!! Elaine

Hi Edie, I had the RNY and I was in the hospital for 2 days.   Best wishes!

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.
