Dr. Lidor, Bayview Medical Cntr.
Hi,
I had Dr. Schweitzer for my surgery and loved him! Also, Bayview is recognized as a Center of Excellence, and I had a great experience there. The nurses are great! Everyone is so excited for the 'new you'. It is a really comforting atmosphere. I know Dr. Lidor is one of his associates, so I am sure that you are in very good hands! I'm excited for you; good luck on your journey! Also, the support group there is great! Some of us who chat on the board will be there on the 19th at 5:00 p.m. There will be pre-ops and post-ops there. You ought to come join us. There will be quite a few people there who have Dr. Lidor as their surgeon.

Thanks for the replies. My insurance will only pay for a Center of Excellence, which I think is a good idea anyway. Did you all have RNY? A friend of mine had such a bad experience with RNY that I'm leaning towards lap band. I guess I will have to discuss my concerns with Dr. Lidor. I wonder if there is a large fail rate on the lab band?
Hi!
I had RNY and was, at first, leaning towards the lap band. After talking with Dr. Schweitzer, I went with the RNY; while I can't speak for everyone, I had a great experience with my surgery. I went in on May 10th at about 2 p.m. (someone else had the earlier surgery), and was going home by 3 p.m. the next day!! I did so well, Dr. Schweitzer released me after a little over 24 hrs. I have never felt better, had no complications, and have not vomitted once to this date (knock on wood). Just like my good experience, and your friend's bad experience, you cannot base your decision solely on someone else's past experiences. I think you will know what to do after you meet with your doctor. She will give you her opinion and recommendation. Again, the Center of Excellence is the main thing I would lean toward. It also might help if you went to one of our support groups where you will hear from everyone (those who have had the lapband, RNY, DS, pre-ops, etc.). It will really put you at ease and may even help you make your decision by hearing all of our past experiences both pre-op and post-op. Let me know if I can be of any help! Take care.

Well I had Rny and I must say being limited to the food I eat has not been easy. But I am looking at the long haul. If I can get past the vitiams that make me sick all day.... I will be great, But to tell you the truth, The best day was yesterday when I stepped on a scale and lost 10lbs in 5 days. It was a happy moment. I was so excited I call everyone in my family lol.
I know a few people with the lap band and they only did ok. They still could eat like normal. There was no restricions and they could still eat the bad foods. With the RNY you need to retrain your eating habits. Thats what this is all about. Good luck with your choice. I too started with the lap band in mind, Then realized The rny was a better chouce for me. I loved the Drs and staff at bayview. They are great.
