I really think that its a personal choice.  Best advice is to research research and more research.  Then come to a decision that is best for you.

Bonnie, you need to come on over to the DS board. It is true that DSers have a short common channel- around 100cc, but with the right nutritian and vitamins all is well. Come check it out. I can't wait to be a DSer. My date is 8/14/07

Hi Bonnie :)  I'm the resident LapBand person of the group.  There are others, but I think I'm on here and at the get togethers more than any others.  Here is my .02 cents worth.  These surgeries are all personal choice.  I chose the band over RNY because it is less invasive, has less risk, completely reversible, and because I am not a sweet eater.  Studies have shown that at 3 years out both RNY and LapBand patients experience the same amount of weight loss.  Yes, RNY is all one fell swoop with the surgery and I do go back for fills in my band, but it is only every couple of months right now.  RNY is not a "done deal" after surgery.  With LapBand I do not have to have frequent blood work nor do I need any kind of vitamin shots.  I do not have a demanding protein requirement and I do not have to count sugar grams.  All the surgeries have pros and cons and it is up to the individual to make their own personal choice.  Please don't try to sway him either way.  Maybe suggest he have a consultation with a doc or have him read up here on OH.

Revised to VSG (6/11/09) weighing 253...
