Need advice...teen daughter

Okay, first, good morning to all.

Second, I apologize that this question is not weight loss related but I wanted some opinions.

Third, the issue!  My daughter, 13, wants to wax the "mustache" off of her top lip.  She does have dark hair there and I will eventually allow that because she does need to do it.  I let her shave her legs very early because she just has a lot of dark hair.   The question....should I use the cream hair remover (that is what I use) and do this for her, now?  What are your thoughts about doing this at 13?  She is very self conscious about it and her brother (12) zones in on that and it becomes a target when they have an argument (which is about 75 times a day).   Thoughts, anyone??? Thanks!!! Kim P.

Hi Kim, I have no experience with children of my own, but I would say definitely let her wax/remove the hair.   She's at a very vulnerable age for self-esteem issues and if this is something that she focuses on as a 'fault' it will only escalate.

I often times see 'younger' girls having eyebrows waxed when I am having my nails done.  I am sure that some of them also have other body parts waxed as well. Good luck with the kids! Hugs, Mo

Thanks so much for your response.  The self esteem issue is exactly why I allowed her to shave her legs before I ever thought I would have a daughter do that.  I just....it's hard.  She is so beautiful, and so young, to be growing up so fast!  Thanks again, I appreciate your thoughts!

Hi Kim. My younger daughter, Meghan, has the same problem.  She isn't too bothered by it right now but I have allowed her to use the cream hair remover before.  She is 14.  I use the cream remover and have had my upper lip waxed.  The cream remover (Sally Hansen brand) is not the best.  I have had to leave it on for the full 8 min (max allowed) and then I have to still pluck a few of the hairs because not all of it comes off.  I have broken out with little pimples too from time to time after using the cream.  The wax is pretty good, but costly if you do often.  The hair grows back fairly quickly so she will probably have to remove it regularly - twice a month or every third week.  If you use another cream remover that you really like, let me know what kind it is.  I am willing to try another one that works better.   Little bros can really be pests!  I know, my little bro was like that with me.  His nicknames for me were buffalo butt and thunder thighs.  To this day I hear him making fun of me when I am having one of those days where I don't like my hips/thighs.   Girls self-esteem is really sensitive at this age.  My oldest is 17.  I think letting her remove the lip hair will help her feel better about herself and at this age they need all the help they can get with that.   Hugs, Robin

Avon has a cream hair remover that works well and is designed for the face. As a former teenage girl, I vote for letting her do it. Being 13 is difficult enough, even without excess facial hair! You're a very caring mom! Lisa

I totally agree on letting her do it!

I don't think 13 is too young.  I think you have to deal with these things as they come up and worry less about the age than the problem.  For instance, if you were to think that no 10-year-old needs a bra, but you have a 9-year-old who's clearly developing, you buy her bras, right? Seems here that teasing is a problem as well as the hair.  It's probably easier to fix the hair. Of course, my daughter is only 5 so all this is theory.
