Hi Katherine, Johns Hopkins just started a program where in you can do the 6 month supervised diet to meet your insurance company's criteria. They weigh you, educate you and document it all. If you're considering Johns Hopkins then this might be something worth while for you to check out. I'm a little bias because Dr Schweitzer was my surgeon, but he has a lot of these lap. bariatric surgeries under his belt (something like 1200 -1500!!!) and his complication rate is very, very low. That's how I finally decided on Dr S. Good Luck with all your preparation. Take care,

Sue

Katherine: You may want to be sure of one thing:  it sounds like you are doing 2 plans at the same time:  your insurance may be one that will except 2 plans of three months each or one plan for a six month stretch:  I have bcbs and thats what they required.  I just don't want you to go into this thinking 3 months is all it will take .  The plans have to be within a two year period.

Darla, My insurance is Optimum Choice HMO and you are right, it is two, 3-,mmonth plans.  So I am doing Weigh****chers online and starting today, taking phentermine prescribed by my PCP.   I will be calling the insurance company today to verify that these two will be acceptable.

Katherine, When I went to my surgeon he took care of the supervised weight loss visit. It was a multidisciplinary one.  I saw the nutritionist she gave me a diet I needed to follow I exercised and my insurance was first requesting a six month supervised but they took Dr. Von Rueden's program and I only had to do three months.  It was a major surprise for me and I was delighted.  I don't know how it works with the other dr's but I would ask first before joining different plans.   Take care

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

Hi, I agree with D.P. I have BCBS PPO and they require 1 six month or two 3 month. I am almost sure the two 3 month can not be done at the same time, They must be done consecutively to equal 6 months. Kristy

Thanks, Kristy.  I may have misunderstood.  At least, either way, I am losing some weight!!!

edited because I can't spell!! Hi Katherine, I have my appointment with Dr. S on Monday. He is terrific and extremly skillful. There are several of us- OC-Trish, Nancy, LizJo, Batting 1 and myself who have used or are in the process of using him. He gets great marks for his skill level on the DS which is considered the high end of complicated Lap surgery. I am sure I will post either Monday nite or Tuesday about my experience with him. Hugs. Jo
