WHAT AM I DOING WRONG - NEED HELP
Hello everyone: I am post surgery 2 months 2 weeks. I lost about 45 pounds. Even though other people say they notice the weight loss, I feel like I am at stand still. I asked the nutritionist about post surgery dieting and she informed me to eat 3 meals a day with high protein and high protein snacks eliminating the sugar. I guess I want instant gratification. I walk at night at least 15 minutes. Since the surgery, I have been having problems with my achilles tendon which limits any vigorous exercise. Can anyone offer some guidance as to how I can still lose weight? I feel like the surgery is not to my benefit.

If you have a pool near you, you could try getting more exercise in by doing water walking/running/aerobics, etc. Great workout that's low impact. Definitely stick with the high protein meals, your body needs more protein so it doesn't leach from your musculature and bones. One other thing to think about doing is not paying attention to the scale so much as to how your clothes are fitting. Measure yourself, or having someone help you with it, weekly as that will give you a better indication of weight loss than actual poundage will. Don't forget, your weight will fluctuate throughout the day.
Good luck!

We must have both had surgery with Dr S right about the same time. I had my surgery with him on April 3rd. I don't think you are doing anything wrong. I have only lost about 35 lbs since having surgery and I felt the very same way. I went in and talked to Sara and she told me that she thinks I am doing just fine. It is frustrating to not see the lbs coming off, but like you most of my friends and family members can notice the weightloss. Just keep with the program and Dr S swears it will work out in the end. I started at 272 lbs and they say that sometimes people under 300 lbs lose slower than others so that is what I am hoping for myself. Good luck and if you need anything else..just ask.

I had my WLS 9/13/03 and at 2 months I was only down 50 pounds (started at 360) and I hated myself because I was ALWAYS comparing myself to everyone else. I know my biggest moment of feeling like a complete WLS failure was when I hadnt lost 100 pounds by 6 months. Everyone it seemed that started out as large as I did had lost alot more than 100 pounds by 6 months. Now, let me add that 3 yrs 9 months post op I am 160 pounds lighter &in a comfortable size 12 from a tight size 32 and unlike alot of people I talk to, I am maintaining my lose rather easily.
Try not to beat yourself up. Eat like you are advised, & DRINK as much as you can.
The only advise at this point in my journey I wish I waould have listened to was this: Make the most of your first nine months of loss....because it gets much harder!! Oh yeah and exercise is very important, it really doesn make the difference. I know you said you walk...but how about trying to ignore your pain and add and extra 3 minutes and then in a week add another 3.
GOOD LUCK
