Dave's 5K Update...

Well...today was the day.    First...a little drama.   Yesterday, I moved an observatory from the place where it was built to my house.   During the move a 4x4 beam was thrown and fell on my foot.   It hurt at the time but steadily got worse.   I thought I might have broken my foot!   But in the end all was well...it hurt today, but survivied. Bottom line.   I ran in my first ever 5k this morning.    This was a goal I had set for myself to be completed in the fall.   There were three parts to the goal.  1.  Register for and take part in an organized 5K event.  2.  Don't walk.   3.  Finish in under 40 minutes.   I accomplished all three this morning.  I ran in the Race For Our Kids.  A 5K race to support the pediatric hospital at Sinai Hospital (where I had my surgery).  I ran the entire course...never walked.   My time was 36:24.  Not my best but safely under 40 minutes.   This was using electronic timing so it was accurate! I could have finished a bit faster, but I was helping someone and needed to hold back a bit on the last hill.   I think I could have finished in about the 35:30 range if I had left her behind.   I think this group is wearing off on me in other ways....I just could not do anything but support her during a very grueling hill climb!   :-) Well..I am off to bed.   Just wanted to share! Pics are posted in my profile along with the details on where I finished.

Every morning in Africa , a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa , a lion wakes up. It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

Hey Dave ! Great job on the 5K.   I tried a little running while we were on vacation and I was doing my morning trip around the campground.  I think I am going to need to stick with the walking and leave the running to others. Hugs, Mo
