Does anyone here do Yoga?

I know I can ask this on the fitness/exercise board, but I wanted the MD group's input first...has anyone used yoga for weight loss?   I had a yard sale Saturday and dug all of the old exercise tapes out and will be alternating through them. I did the yoga for weightloss one today and it felt great. But it isn't your typical "pumped up, breathing heavy, hard core workout".  I am sure I'll feel it tomorrow in my muscles, but it almost felt too rejuvinating to be good. Does that make sense at all? :)  Just wondering if anyone here does it on a regular basis and where they have seen benefits. Thanks!

Sounds like a good method. Let us know how it progresses.

I did 'yogalates' for a while.  It was a combination of yoga and pilates.   It wasn't a cardio workout but it definitely worked the muscles.   I have several DVDs of both yoga and pilates that I have never looked at that I am going to start taking with me when we go out in the RV and I'm not going to the gym to have an alternative to walking. Hi, Smilesly - I started taking a yoga class seriously about a year ago (years ago, I worked for the Y and did them off an on). I took a 4-week break around the holidays and when I went back, I felt it! I love yoga. If you're curious about calories burned, there is a calculator on Spark People (www.sparkpeople.com) that you can use for an estimate.  Enjoy! Lisa

Thanks Lisa!   I felt great after doing the routine last night, and could feel it a little bit today.  I am going to try to alternate walking/treadmill, yoga, aerobics routines, just to get variety to get variety so I am doing something every day.

So how does a big cartoon bear help you stretch your muscles????      Ahhhh   You are talking about Yoga...not Yogi....

The way I look at it, if you do anyting that works muscles or increases your heart rate (and does not invovle eating) then it is good. You will have to bring you tape to the Carroll County Support Group meeting so we can see! Dave

Every morning in Africa , a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa , a lion wakes up. It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

Always the comedian!  I'll be sure to bring the tape for our meeting (shamless plug inserted here:  Remember---the Carroll County Support Group meets for it's first time on Wednesday June 27th at the Westminster Branch of the CC Public Library) I will be happy to share the tape, but there will be NO live demo - unless of course our resident 5K runner cares to do so!!!
