Ok, now that I have a date I am curious.  How long did it take everyone to go back to work?  I am planning on having Lap RNY (of course depending on what happens during surgery)

I had open RNY October 3, 2006 and went back to work a week later....1/2 days for a week and back to full time the following. I have a desk job so that made it easier.  ~Heather

Cool!  I should have mentioned that I am a secretary so I am pretty at my desk all day.  That will be great if I don't have to miss too much work being that I will be there around a month when I have the surgery.  Thanks!!

First off let me say hello and congrats on your upcoming surgery.  My surgery was May 3rd and I have not went back to work yet. Dr. Lee was my surgeon also and she wants you out for at least 6 weeks. I might go back the first week of June though.  The thing is you have to train yourself to eat all over again. I think that you should at least take about 3 - 4 weeks. You might fell better on the outside but think about your insides and the changes it went thru.

Congrats on your date. I took a month off. I had open RNY and I was a Nanny at the time so lifting kids was a no no. But they do say desk jobs are better and you can go back quicker but like Heather said half days the first week so you do not tire your self out.

First...congrats on the date!   That is a big hurddle to get over! As for work.  I had laproscopic RNY.   I also did not have any complications to speak of .   I had signed up for Short Term Disablility so I had to take 3 weeks.    Now...while I felt well enough to work within about 5 days, it would have been very tough to concentrate on my work and the eating and the vitamins and everything else going on.   I was glad I had time to adjust to the new lifestyle before having to get right back to work.   Did I mention that I am a computer programmer (no physical labor but lots of mental excercise). Another thing to consider is complications.   No one expects them.  Most don't have any that cause any issues with schedules.   But some do.   And when there is one, you need to be ready for the fact that you might be out for awhile.   Not trying to scare you...but you need to be ready...just in case. It was surprising how fast you feel up to doing things again.    I wish you the best as your journey kicks into high gear!

Every morning in Africa , a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa , a lion wakes up. It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

Thanks!!  It was a struggle to get that approval and when I did oh it felt sooooo good haha. Oh I completely am prepared for complications.  I know they can happen to anyone.  I of course hope I don't have any but I have prepared for them.

Thanks for all your input

I had my lap RNY on March 6th and was prepared to go back to work on Monday March 19th.  I had a little bump in the road and had to stay out a bit longer, but even so, I was back to work on April 12.  As Dave points out, it was nice to have the extra time to grow accustomed to the mini meals, the all day sipping, and the vitamin and supplement schedule!   Congrats on getting your date and best of luck!
