from the road - Saturday
We are having fun! Some excitement on the way down though. Less than 20 miles from the track we had a blowout on the RV. It was spectacular. Fortunately, it was on the 'curbside' so when we got off on the shoulder the flat was not on the traffic side. We have a road service membership (sort of like Triple A for RV's) so we just had to call and wait for them to send someone to get us back on the road! the 'incident' with the tire put us back a couple of hours so we didn't get here til about 12:30 p.m. Once we got the RV set up we just sort of chilled. I've read 2 books already!!!
Friday a.m. I got up about 5 a.m. and chatted on line with my racing buddies til about 6:30 (I have to be careful week days about the minutes .. I try to do after 9 p.m. and before 6 a.m. .. but sometimes I go over a bit .. lol) then I went out to walk. I am trying to do at least a lap around the outside of the campground once a day in addition to the regular walking I do in the course of a vacation day.
After a trip to Walmart and Sam's (for the stuff I either 'forgot' or planned to buy here) we came back and just hung out for a while. The temperature was sort of 'cool'. I had on shorts and a sweatshirt. Fell asleep sitting outside in the sun and managed to get a little 'color'. Fortunately it's a nice glow rather than a painful RED !!!!
There was a 'charity' buffet thing going on up the road to benefit Speedway Children's Charities so after a stop at Concord Mills (another walk around the mall and another new pair of boots ) we stopped for a late lunch. The buffet was at a place called Texas Land & Cattle Steakhouse. Lunch was some caesar salad, beans, mashed taters, bbq chicken and prime rib .... YUMMY!! They served it so I didn't have much to say about the quantities. I ate what I 'could' and fed the rest to Mr Mo One of the Charlotte area country radio stations was there and I knew they are having a 'tailgate' party in the hospitality village before qualifying on thursday night. I managed to talk the guy with the tickets out of a pack!!! I did have to play the game (it was a beanbag toss) but he gave me the tickets even though I didn't even come close! (being cute must count for something .. )
Truck race last night was a good one. Not many cautions (but maybe 6 cautions in 134 laps is a lot .. .. lol) and the winning truck/driver was someone we like so it was a good night!
Today will be a quiet one until the race tonight. I've got to take a nap this afternoon to keep my napping during the race to a minimum! Mr Mo doesn't understand how I fall asleep with the cars roaring around the track but I do The temps today are supposed to be a bit warmer so maybe I can sit out and not have on a sweatshirt and get a little sun on my upper body!
Thanks to everyone who posted 'have a good trip' messages to my last post before we left. I'm lucky to be able to even get to the OH site (the cell phone connection leaves MUCH to be desired) so I'm not always able to read and post replys.
I'll check in again when I can!
Hugs & smoochies, Mo
P.S. There are pictures that will be posted when I get home
Hi to my favorite MO,
Sounds like you are having a fabulous time and I'm not just saying this, I wish I were there. I can't wait till next year when the knees are all done and I'm at the races with my McHoney. I would have freaked with the blowout in the RV, did you guys swerve and have to hold on for dear life? Nice that your getting some sun, a rosey glow on top of everything else who knows what you might win or special stuff you might be given. You know the worst sunburn I ever got was at a Nascar race so be careful. Well I'm gonna go finish my coffee, having a little get together with Heather and Kelly today so I'm looking forward to that. Talk to you soon. ENJOY.
Margie
Hi Mo
Glad you guys are ok from the blowout.n That had to be scary in a RV. Well I am home alon AAAHHHH Hubby left for Ocean City car show yesterday but Heather and Margie are coming over today so I wont be bored. LOL. We are discussing the picnic details so they will be coming soon. Your not missing any weather here it is very cool today and was cold yesterday. Hope you enjoy the rest of your vacation and we will miss you tommorow. I will take pics for you..lol.
How in the wide wide world of sports can you fall asleep at a stock car race (or a truck race)....geeeeez...I just don't get you women at all!
Tell Mr. Mo, I am on his side on this one. You can nap in a lawn chair for a lot less than that race seat!!!!
You know...that gives me an idea. You can take me along and then you can sleep at the camper while Mr. Mo and I enjoy the noise and the burning rubber smell and everything else you can enjoy while you are awake!!!
LOL...even Mrs. Dave can't figure this one out! She actually enjoys the night races a lot more than the sweltering Dover day races...but to date...she has never fallen asleep at the track.
Hope the Saturday night event was as good as the Truck race. I did not get to see any of it 'cause I was at The Cow (see The Cow posts from Caryn and I).
Take care and have a wonderful rest of the trip!
Dave
