I am looking for any info you can give me about the process. I am seriously considering the Lapband with Dr Von Rueden. Anyone have UnitedHealth? K

I have UNited Health Care. I think they are a decent insurance company. I have had no problems wiht them and they covered everything. DVR was my surgeon and I had a lap RNY.

What are the criteria for coverage and the tests that will be needed? Thanks so much for answering! K

Kelly, I had Lap-Band done by Dr. Schweitzer on 9/14/06 and I had UHC at the time. I had the best plan they offer. I made sure to have my weight and diet history along with all my meds and co-morbidities listed for the doc when they sent in their letter to the insurance company for pre-qualification. Thanks for the help. I guess I am worried about it bec I am healthy. Odd isnt it? My BMI is right at 40 but my blood work is better than some skinny people. I am hoping my joint problems will help. I have had Plantar fasciitis in both feet and therapy for my knee. Diet history should help.. I can start in 1970's with the liquid protein diet that ended up killing some people. Nice huh? I have a life time of diets! I cant wait to get started! My hubby is actually being supportive. I love this website! Thanks! K

I was never questioned once. With a BMI that high, I really don't think you have to worry. The tests may show another co-morbidity. But I don't think you need to be concerned. I just scheduled all the tests required, and the insurance company paid. They still do.
