First Real Meal Since Surgery...

I finally got to eat a REAL meal since surgery.. my doctor cleared me from my liquid diet. It was heavenly... I had a whole 5 bites of rotisserie chicken, and 2 small bites of mashed potatoes, and 2 skinless grapes. I am stuffed!!!!! It feels good to be able to eat so little and feel so satisfied. Now, I just hope the heartburn doesn't return. P.S. I had my first post-op checkup with my DR. I lost 20 LBS!!! In less than two weeks!!! How exciting is that!!! He says everything is fine, and the pressure in my chest I am feeling is heartburn or possibly bile reflux, which I guess happens because there is no barrier anymore between our "stomach" and our small intestine. Just thought I would update since I spoke of this pressure/pain I was having. BTW... has anyone suffered extreme backpain after the surgery.. I have both lower back pain, and pain in between my shoulders. Dr. Says that as I lose the weight, I will find aches and pains because of my body adjusting to the weight change. Thanks!!! Kelly G.

Hi Kelly, I was told when there is pain inbetween your shoulder blades, it is because their is food in your esphogus (sp). I have not had this happen to me. I understand about the lower back pain, I think I have it because I am still sleeping at an angle. Hope this helps Jen

-- CONGRATULATIONS! That is very exciting. Well i guess the both of us are experiencing back pain -- mostly the left side of my ribs and sometimes straight across my back. I've pain an appointment with my ortho --I was trying to wait until I see my surgeon but the pain will be a month old by the time I see him. So I'm going to see sombody -- its aggravating. I'm sure we are going to find aches and pains we've never known as our bodies continue to adjust to less weight. Just think -- 2 days after I was back at work we had a fire drill and had to walk down 11 flights -- my knees didn't hurt, I didn't feel like stopping -- if anything I noticed the amount of weight that WASN'T there while going down stairs -- THAT for me was a GREAT VICTORY. Keep going Sistah -- there is more weight loss to come.

Hi Kelley Congratulations on losing 20 pounds already that is fantastic! I am so glad you got to enjoy your real food today. I hope you don't get anymore heartburn. Are you on any meds for that? I have been taking prevacid solutab sice the 2 days after surgery. It has worked wonders! I have never experienced that type of back pain except when I was feeling sick and it had to do with my lungs. My hiney did hurt a lot from sitting on it constantly but that was it. I hope the pain goes away soon. Best wishes and good luck on your journey. Cira

Is the prevacid solutab over the counter, or prescription? Just wondering, as I am concerned that the ones I am taking may not be working because our bodies don't absorb pills like they used to preop. I think the dissolving ones, and chewables are better for us post op, because they are already in the form our bodies needs them in to absorb the meds. Thanks!!

The prevacid solutab is by prescription only. I also believe lquid and chewables work better for us too. Talk to your doctor about it. best of luck! Cira

WTG Kelly!! You're on your way now! Acid reflux is a @%^&$!!! I can not eat after 6PM. Sometimes I pu**** to 7PM. But any later, and I'm doomed for the night. I remember the early back pain as my body adjusted. The back pain was never as bad as pre-surgery, just new ones and different locations. Can't help with the between shoulder pain. Keep up the good work and congrats on the 20lb weight loss. TraciL

Hi Kelly Congrats on your 20 lbs that is awsome. I bet that food was delicious. I do have back pain but no like pre-op. If I sit at the computer to long I think I still hunch over and thats why. I cant sleep for a long period because i will wake up really sore the next morning. My body I guess is just trying to get use to the weight change. I have never felt the shoulder blades pain though. But if I sit on my but for to long my butt bone hurts until I walk a few steps. Soon I see massages in my future...lol. Well Congrats again and keep up the good work Kelly W
