Regular foods/ fruit?
Hi, everyone! I'm doing great! This has been the best thing I have ever done!!! I couldn't be happier at the moment! The scale seems like it is finally moving again, I'm trying not to get fustrated because I know it's coming off in inches because all my clothes fall off of me!
Anyway- the reason for the post Tomorrow my doctor is going to advance me to regular foods and I just wanted some input from you guys on what you had. I've already tried grilled chicken breast and crab cakes and it has set well with me. Just wanted some other ideas. Also, what about fruits?? On my paper it says fruits packed in natural juices and water but when I looked in the store today the sugar content was still high. Can I eat an apple minus the skin? Or that type of thing?? I am just craving some fruit!! Oh and what about cereal, I know not to have any sugar based cereal, what have you guys had? Any other suggestions would be great.
Thanks for everything!!!!
I am glad things are going well for you. I did fruit in light syrup, apples, watermelon and grapes. I realized that your ability will change over time. Just introduce things to yourself slowly. If you eat it and it works then go with it. But I have learned that sometimes something might work good once, and then not good the next time. So I try and keep a log of those types of foods. You taste for things will be very different, there were a lot of things that I loved at first but can not stand right now. Cereal I did kix and cherios. I do less than 15 grams of sugar, low salt and very little grease.
Hey Jamie
Congratulations
Yes, you can do apples as long as they are peeled --- try it with peanut butter. It is an interesting combination. I'd never tried it before this surgery. The sugar content in those canned fruits are high -- even the sugar-free or no sugar added products are high in sugar. Low fat cheese you can eat, strawberries, honeydew or cantaloupe melons, peanuts, chicken or tuna salad, cheese omelets with salsa.
I've just about left the cereal alone because the cereal I like -- Banana Nut Crunch -- is high in sugar and when you add the 7 grams of sugar in Soy milk to the cereal it jacks it up higher -- so I just have a glass of soy milk in the morning while I'm getting dressed for work. And when I get to work, I either drink a Dr. Atkins or go downstairs and have the chef make me an omelet.
The basic rule is to introduce things one at a time and very slowly. I often will get some already sliced fruits from the salad bar at the grocery. In fact, when I work at night, I stop at the Safeway near my 2nd job to get dinner. I get the smallest container they have. Then i take a small amount of the various items I want. Last night, tuna and seafood salad with some melons. I paid just over $2 for my dinner. I couldn't fini****
Hi Jamie sonds like you are doing good. I would agree with everyone else and introduce new foods slowley. When I started wit fruit my thing was pineapple in the can. Fruits have natural sugar so they are ok for you. But pineapple was my fruit of choice. It was easy to mush up in my mouth and went down smoothly and was good for the end of summer when I had my surgery. Just keep a record of what works for you and didn't agree with you. Keep up the great work

Hi Jaime,
I am glad you are doing great!
I do well with strawberries, grapes (but I peel the skin), banana. I had 2 slices of orange the other day but I got rid of the skin on the slice I just the inside of it.
I had a few cut pieces of the apple. I have to teach myself to eat slow so I cut it up into small pieces (so skin ofcourse)
I will be trying different fruits soon.
Hugs,
Cira
Jamie,
Try the Del Monte Fruit Naturals (in the refrigerated section in produce). The sugar content is not that bad. Each cup is considered two servings, but my nutritionist advised me that eating a whole cup in one sitting is not terrible because it counts more as a liquid by the time you chew it up really good. I lived off of Fruit Naturals and Dannon Light & Fit yogurt for months after my surgery. They are still a major part of my diet a year later. My favorite Fruit Naturals variety is the Cherry Mixed Fruit or the Peaches, but there are a few other varieties that you can try.
Good luck!
Jay
