Home on Saturday
Hey Kelly and welcome home!
The ride home was a tough one for me as well. Lots-o-bumps and turns on highways were not at all fun. But the comfort of my easy chair in the living room was a nice reward.
I started walking the halls in the hospital about 6 hours after surgery. Everytime I got uncomfortable, I would get up and wal****pt that up at home as well. I spent many of the first two or three nights at home wearing a path in my carpet just pacing.
The actual pain, for me, had subsided by the time I left the hospital. If I turned the wrong way, or used my stomach muscles to stand, it hurt, and would hurt for several minutes afterwards. But within a week at home, the pain was gone.
Remember though...this is very personal. You will find people that 6 weeks out are still dealing with pain and gas...while others are fine within a week. Just keep up with the Dr's orders and walk, walk, walk.
Best of luck as you recoup.
Dave
Hey Kelly -
Welcome home! I'm sorry you're in so much pain. I had lap RNY, and didn't have any surgery pain, but I had what they called "referred pain" in my shoulder from the gas! OMG! It felt like someone stuck a knife in me. I was up walking around the night of my surgery, and then about every two hours afterward. Walking truly does help, and if the pain gets really bad, take those wonderful pain meds!!
Take care, be as compliant as you can, walk and sip! I promise, it'll all seem like a distant memory soon!
