I just wanted to thank everyone for their well wishes and thoughtful messages. They released me from the hospital on Saturday, at about 5pm. The ride home was MISERABLE.. I still feel really bad. How long does this gas take to go away? And how long do most people stay in this much pain? I know everyone's pain tolerance is different, but I didn't know I was going to feel like this!! Uggg!! Again, thanks for everything. Kelly G.

Hi Kelly, Welcome home! I am so glad to see your post. I am sorry I didn't call you to check on you but I was sick all day Friday and yesterday I spent the day recovering. The gas pain is horrible I spent a week with intense gas pain. I took Gas X to help with the gas and you need to walk around a lot through out the day to help pass it. warm chicken broth with gas x helps a lot. We never know how we are going to feel until we get there. But everyday it will get better. Hugs and prayers! Cira

Hi Kelly G and welcome home. Keep walking and it should help the gas go away. Just take it easy and get lots of rest and take your meds. I didnt have much pain when i came home so I am sorry you feel that way. It will get better everyday. Hang in there and welcome to the losers bench

Hi Kelly, I had open not lap, so I don't have personal experience with the gas pains, but I have heard that walking really helps get it moving! Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Hugs, Mo

Hi Bonnie, I can only speak from my experience, but I didn't have any gas pain after my open RNY. When the surgery is done lap, they pump gas in to 'inflate' you to be able to move the instruments around inside. Hugs, Mo
