Well, I got the news from my surgeon's office today that my surgery, will in fact, be on the 25th... next Wednesday. However, I called my surgeon's office, they gave me a list of things that I need to do prior to surgery. One of which was, to meet with the bariatric coordinator at GW and tour the bariatric department and have them tell me more info about the surgery. The only problem with this is... they only do these "tours and classes" on Wednesdays. AND--- my surgery is next Wednesday, so I'm too late. I have preop tests tomorrow morning, and I was going to just stop in and see the bariatric coordinator, and see if she could kind of have an informal meeting with me about the surgery. Has anyone else had surgery at GW, and has run into this situation? Do they make exceptions on their "Wednesday" schedules? And what does this meeting consist of? Also -- I'm starting to get a bit nervous now. Did you guys have a will prepared prior to surgery, "just in case"? Thanks for the suppport!!! Kelly G.

Hi Kelly, I had my surgery at GW April 5th. I ran into the same problem sort of because I lived in Baltimore and I did not want to drive all the way to DC just for that class. I had my surgeon arrange an informal meeting with one of the nurses so she could give me a tour and tell me everything that will happen after surgery. Since you are having your preop tests tomorrow I would diffently go up to the 5th floor and ask to speak with the bariatric coordinator. The women I spoke with, who was also my nurse, is Charlina, she is so nice and I'm sure they will work with you. Explain your situation. The staff at GW are awesome!!! Best of luck!!!!

Hey Kelly - Congrats on getting that date! WOO-HOO! Unfortunately, I can't offer any guidance regarding GW, but I wanted to tell you that all the emotions you'll be feeling up to and even after surgery are completely normal. Yes, I did have a will and an advanced directive prepared prior to my surgery. Whether or not you're having any type of surgery, you should probably have these documents done. If it gives you piece of mind, then by all means. One of my best friends is an attorney, so if you need more info, let me know. He's located in Essex, and won't charge you an arm and a leg. Good luck and let us know if you need anything! Tia

Kelly I just wanted to wish you the best. I am sure they will make an exception for you since they just scheduled for next wednesday. But keep us posted as soon as you can and nerves are perfectly normal. I personally did not have a will but that is a decision you should make. Maybe if you ave children you should really think about it. But I wish you a speedy recovery and were waiting for you on the losers bench

Hi Kelly, Congratulations on your date. I am sorry I am not able to give you any advice about GW. but I wanted to wish you all the best with your surgery. I had a living will and letters made just for peace of mind. Nerves are normal and know that you are not a lone. Best wishes and keep us posted. Hugs, Cira
