Question for the Ladies

If you've had weight-loss surgery (RNY) and you recently got pregnant or had a baby after surgery, Please fill me in on this process. I would like to have children after my surgery. Even though I know I have to wait just about two years, I like to start researching it now. I am 30 yrs old now and will be 32 by the time I can start. Which is ok with me(don't know if hubby is ok with it). Bariatric surgery can produce a sudden positive change in your fertility. A report in a November 2005 issue of the Journal of Obstetric, Gynecologic, and Neonatal Nursing found that women with fertility problems linked to obesity who have the surgery can start ovulating regularly for the first time in years. And if you have polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), your fertility should also get a boost after surgery. A study published in the December 2005 issue of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism found that post-surgery weight loss for women with PCOS resolved their metabolic and reproductive abnormalities. Me personal, have had a issue with conceiving because of the above situation. SO now after this surgery I can pop up and get pregnant if I am not protected. But not to bore you, this matter is very interesting to me. So post here or sned a private message. Thank You.

It's funny you mention this. I just had my appointment 1st post-op appointment with Dr.Lee today and asked her about methods of birth control. She said I need to wait at least a year before getting pregnant (although I am in no rush) She also said I should use 2 forms of birth control, meaning a condom and a shot, pill, etc. She said a lot of women become very fertile after such weight loss. I am seeing my ob/gyn Thursday to update her on my surgery and I will continue with my shot. Hope this helps a little bit. Dr. Lee had a lot of insight on this matter, I would give her a call.

Hi Yvette My doc told me to wait 12-18 months until I try to get pregnant. I have pcos so hoping that clears and my pcp always told me loosing weight will help that. I always had issues concieving and that has been my bigges fear in life because that is the only thing missing in my life. I have a great Family, Wonderful Husband but so ready for a child. But it will happen when it is supposed to and it will be worth this wait.

Luckily, I am beyond the wanting another baby stage. I was worried that I would start to have cycles again. I haven't had one since I was 35. WLS releases estrogen. Estrogen is stored in fat. Needless to say, immediately after surgery, we are total hormonal beings. Hugs, Aime
