How was your experience? My understanding is that they don't have any requirements (such as the 6 mos supervised weight loss, etc), just a letter from the doc and approval is fast. Just want to see if that was indeed the case. Thank you to ALL of you who have taken the time out to greet me and give me advice. Thanks to all of your suggestions, I have definately maybe decided on Hopkins. Or St. Agnes. I'm going to attend both seminars and meet the docs so hopefully I'll get a good vibe (or a quick date for surgery!) and that will be it. Keep your collective fingers crossed...:angst: hugs, N

I don't have the insurance you mentioned. I think even if the insurance company doesn't require the 6 month diet, you will have to undergo several tests prior to surgery. That in itself takes time. I am sure that you will have your surgery quickly once you are completely approved. Welcome to the forum.

Nancy, While I have BC/BS FEP now, at the time I had surgery I had a Carefirst PPN and it was a very simple process. I think Carefirst has tightened up somewhat since my WLS 3 years ago though. Aime is correct there are other pre-op tests that you may have to have, but those may depend on the surgeon you chose and not be an issue with the insurance. Best wishes on your WLS journey. Hugs, Mo

I have the federal BC/BS PPO (if that is the same as FEP) and it was relatively easy to get this done! I had a note from my treating doctor in support of the surgery, and had to have the psych eval (I think everyone has to have that, insurance or not!). They have covered all of the pre op, the surgery itself, and the complications and everything related to them that I had. While you have "definitely maybe" decided on where to go, I may add that I was very pleased with the program at Sinai! There is more info on my profile/blog about them, if you are still searching for a group! Good Luck!
