Hello Board, I was thinking about having my surgery done back at home just to be wit family and friends. I'm from Baltimore, but i now reside in Missouri. I do miss home but i like where I live now. So I wanted to ask if you know any good doc for the surgery and how was your wls wit him. I have private insurance for now but by time i get everything done where i'm at i will have another insurance. So any advice let me know. Thank You

Hi Barbara, Welcome to the Maryland Board and best wishes as your WLS journey continues. My only advice to you would be to consider your post op care if you chose to have your surgery here in Maryland rather than where you are living in Missouri. You will be surrounded by friends and family here to have your surgery, but you will be back in Missouri after your surgery and you will have post op follow ups. In doing your research for a surgeon in Baltimore be sure to find out what his after care program is and if he will refer you to someone in Missouri for that care and then be sure to check out the referral to be sure it is someone you will be comfortable with. Hugs, Mo

Hi Barbara Welcome to the Maryland Boards. I have to agree with Mo. You need to ceck into after care. I know my surgeon wanted to see me in 3 months, 6months, and 9 months then just once a year. You miht be better having it where you are now. Maybe your family from Baltimore can come stay with you after you ave your surgery. I wish you the best and keep us posted on your journey

Hi Barbara, Dr. Schweitzer at Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital often has out-of-state patients coming in. One person in particular that I actually went and visited with was Darlene O from Fort Worth, Texas. She rented an executive apartment for two weeks and had a friend/nurse meet her in Baltimore where they both stayed. Look her up on his forum and I am sure she would be willing to share. Darlene had her records transferred to a Texas doctor for follow-ups and plans on returning in October for a yearly visit with Dr. Schweitzer. I might also add that he and his wonderful P/A, Pat, are both readily available by either phone and e-mail. There is response time is fantastic, even on weekends and evenings. I found both Dr. S. and Hopkins both outstanding and am delighted to have experienced both. Feel free to contact me further, Adrienne

Yes, see if family and friends came come to you because you will not be allowed to travel right back to MO after the surgery. It would seem to me that you are adding stress to yourself by traveling to and from Baltimore. I understand you wanting to behome; however, even two weeks after surgery DVR did not clear me to fly because of the possibility of getting sick on the plane or developing blood clots. As you stated, by the time you have everything done you'll have another insurance. If your private insurance covers the surgery, you might want to think about getting the surgery done before you change insurances because there is no guarantee that the future insurance company will cover the surgery
