Good question Vanessa! I was wondering that myself. I think I remember someone saying that it is an uncomfortable test. Anyone?????

Hi Vanessa, I took my husband with me and he held my hand while I had the aterial stick. Unfortunately they missed the first stick and the second stick. I was a trooper and told them they could try one more time or else I was leaving. it is a bit uncomfortable while they stick you. It is done at your wrist where your pulse gets checked. But it is not terribly painful unless it is someone who is not experienced. When I was back in the hospital sick with my complication I had an aterial blood gas done everyday. The guy who did was so good it did not hurt at all. So make sure to ask for an experienced person! best wishes Cira

HI Vanessa, I have the same doctor as you and had the Aerial Blood Gas test done at GBMC. I got myself all worked up for nothing the tec got me on the first try and it didn't feel any different that any other blood test. I did hear that the tec at GBMC was really good thats why I went to them for the test. You are going to love DVR he is the best. Bobbie (Barbara)

Not going to lie- yes it can hurt. But working yourself up over it will assure that it will hurt. Just close your eyes and take a nice deep breathe. It will be over in a moment. Aime
