Well...had my 1 month post op follow up visit yesterday. Everyone was smiling, so I take that as a good sign. Stats: Lost 34lbs 26% of my total weigh loss in first month (goal was 21%) BP was 131/76 - no meds (pre op with meds was 156/87) BS from labs was 112 - no meds (pre op with meds 206) B12 was high - told to stop B12 supplement for 4 weeks Cholesterol was spot on normal All other labs were good Need to increase my protein to 110 to 135g / day (Yikes) My surgeon was very pleased with my progress and the nutritionist was equally pleased with my labs and eating habits. The later was very happy that I had started keeping a food diary. I am having a hard time finding new foods that I can eat that will still provide enough protein. I have started heavily supplementing my protein but until I can find products that work well and taste good to me, it will be a struggle. I am currently eating a lot of tuna and chicken salad along with broiled fresh fish. I am also trying to find a protein bar that will work. Finding one that is under 200 cals, less than 3 grams of fat and has more than 20 g of protein really limits my choices. So we shall see. I am getting in between 70 and 90 oz of fluids each day. Mostly Crystal lite. I am trying to find a protein water that I can drink. I tried the Stacker 2 protein waters but they are too thick for my tastes. So I am going to try the Isopure waters this weekend and see how they do. I start some weight trainning on Friday at the gym and am now walking either 2 miles outside in 30 minutes, or 3.5 miles in 60 minutes on the treadmill at the gym. I have heard a few folks mention that they can't seem to get motivated to walk. While I understand, I actually use it to help with any cravings I have. Especially when I have to cook for the kids. I do the cooking and then go walk or go to the gym. It really gets my mind off the smells and helps me make it through another day. I am back to work full time and am glad to be getting engaged again in my work. It really does help the days go quicker and I love all the nice comments I am getting. I am president of the Westminster Astronomical Society (amature astronomers). I had taken a month off from the club during my surgery. I fully expected to be away from this another month. But since things were going so well, I got reengaged with the club last week. I ran the meeting last night and felt wonderful. I really thought the meeting would wipe me out, but it did not. I felt great through out and even had energy to spare when I got home. I am having some sensations I can not remember having before. 1. I feel hungry. Not the "I want a bucket of KFC chicken" craving hungry, but a true, "stomach's empty and I need to eat" kind of hungry. 2. I feel full. This was something that worried me before the surgery, because I never felt full. Now, I actually feel full when I have had enough (and sometimes before I "think" I have had enough). Both of these feelings are great. I hope they stick around! All of the pre-op pants now fall right to the floor without a belt. I am pulling out shirts from about 6 or 7 years ago and they are even loose. I don't want to buy new clothes until my weight and sizes begin to stabilize so I think I will be doing some Good Will shopping next month. It is going to be fun to shop at a store other than a big and tall mens shop. One last funny thing. Many of my co-workers have asked me if I have gotten new glasses. They comment that my glasses are bigger than when I went out. I have nicely explain that my glasses are the same...my face is now smaller! Well...I appologize if this is a bit long. Just wanted to share a few of the positive things happening since my surgery. Hope all is going well with everyone out there. Dave

Hi Dave - Has it been a month already? Geez, time flies! You are doing super. I'm glad you are feeling so good. I eat the South Beach Protein Bars, they are good, full of protein and low in calories. I eat one every other day, sometimes for breakfast or a snack.

Congrats! You are doing great. Be careful of alot of tuna though. There is mercury in tuna. And it can cause alot of headaches. Alot of fish like tilapia does not have mercury, but still tastes great! Bonnie R

Dave, Your news is wonderful. Sounds like you are making some great life changes. Viable proteins choices are so hard espcially early on. I still resort to the soft food options. I don't mind them. Soups etc. Keep up the good work.

Congratulations!! sounds like you got this "thing" down pretty good!! You may want to try the "Nectar" protein powder mix, with water or crystal lite? That way you can get your protein & water at the same time?? It's 23grams of protein per scoop, in 8-16oz serv. which ever you perfer to you taste? to add a little more powder or less. So far I live by this new discovery after being let down by the Isopure powders?? Good Luck 2 U as you continue on with your "wl" journey!!! jbug!!
