Update on Floyd / any advice from lurking bandsters...

Hi everyone. Floyd was banded on 5/18/06, had his first and second fill on schedule, did very well losing and then I'm not sure what happened. It's like he decided he didn't want to eat any less. Gradually he was eating more and I finally convinced him to go get another fill after probably 5 months of not having one. He only gained 3 pounds since his last fill. Anyway. He had been eating much more than he should have but not quite as much as pre-op. So after his fill he didn't do liquids like he was told to and he didn't do mushies. He thought he could just go ahead and have a regular meal. The NP and I both told him to do warm liquids and mushies. He got the food stuck that he ate and had to get it out. That night he couldn't even get liquids down (he was drinking cold liquids) and even refluxed in the middle of the night. Saturday he finally listened to me and started having warm chicken broth. He did okay and progressed to some mushy foods later Saturday (and even ate salsa and chips at Chevy's!!! puked them though), but felt more comfortable with the liquids. By yesterday (monday) he was having post op type of foods (broth, cream of chicken, potted meat) and even had a few crackers. At dinner he was adventurous enough to have a chicken leg and mashed potatoes. He ate the skin (even though I told him not to) and something got stuck. He kept feeling pressure and like he needed to burp. He got whatever it was to go down. Today he said that a piece of the chicken in the cream of chicken soup got stuck or he had an air bubble stuck. I asked if he thought he should get 0.5 ccs taken out and he wants to go forward to see if he progresses over the next couple of days. He has lost almost 20 pounds (from the docs scale Friday to our scale this morning). He IS getting in liquids so I'm not worried about him being dehydrated and he said he feels fine and actually feels better today than he did on Friday. What do you all think? Just see what happens??? My only concern is that he's going to get tighter after another week like most of us Banders do after a fill.

Heather I wish i could give you advice but noe being a bander I am not sure. I guess as long as he isnt getting dehydrated I would wait to see how it goes. Maybe just stick with what is working and not getting stuck.
