Ok so i am about to voice my opinion about something here. If I offend anyone I am sorry but this subject just fumes me. I barely look on the Main message board but thought I would the other day Well I saw a post about someone who was going to be in People Magazine. I love this magazine and I am a subscriber so I was looking forward to this particular issue because I thought for once this surgery would be seen as good for those who are aprehensive about it and think "It's the easy way out". Well to my surprise it was about Gastric Bypass patients with Transfer Addictions. As I read this article my face got more red then a cherry. 3 people were interviewed for there addictions after weight loss The first-- (from the person I saw who posted it on the message board) Addiction to shopping. What women doesnt love to shop. Give me a brake. She has a purse addiction now. I have had a purse addiction since I was 13. I would buy purses every 2 weeks. This is a load of crap if you ask me. The next--- Became an alcholic. My stepfather was an alcholic and never had weight issues. He is a small man. The last--- Now a smoker--- I was a smoker before wls. I though it was hard to quit but people do it every day. To me this article made it seem like if you have this surgery you will become addicted to other things. This is the kinda stuff that makes this surgery be put on the bad wagon and why Oprah and others say such negative things about it. I just get so fumed when it is put on the spotlight as a bad thing. When is it going to be praised for saving lives. Again I am sorry if I offended anyone but I had to post my feelings about it.

Yeah go ahead and vent away. I saw many articles about people doing things different because they were so surpressed by the weight. I saw one article about the lady being a sex addict. I just think it go both ways, good and bad. But it does save lives and sometime, unfortunately it takes lives. I just hope that some new light will be shed on the subject soon.

No offense here, Kelly I agree with the purse thing since I was around 10 and also SHOES don't forget. It seems to me that you will find whenever people accomplish or even aim at a goal, people always target negative arrows. Not yet having wls I have read soooo much and can understand how the positive sits in the back of the negative when people write these articules. I'm glad this is a board you can share everything feelings of aggervation, and happiness because lets face it we are not at all perfect fat or thin....... Wendy p.s. Just got my 1st Louis Vuitton bag last year!!!!! That was a goal.

No offense taken here Kelly. I'm at work when Oprah comes on but I've heard many people say she has spoken negatively about the surgery and I'm sure HER cooks and HER trainers and other physician type people she have on the program agree with her. If we were worth millions we'd have personal cooks and trainers as well. I'd like to know who these people are really. Sex addiction was probably there before the individual gained weight and because the individual couldn't or wouldn't deal with the sex addiction they turned to food. so now since they've lost all this weight and have a new found version of sel the sex addiction the individual was never treated for is now in full effect. And now bypass surgery is being the fall guy -- kinda like Scooter Libby. My partner is a smoker before WLS and after the WLS -- do that's no excuse. Smoking is something this person has always wanted to do -- probably has an oral fixation. Heck, I'm enjoying getting skinny. Looks like I see a physical change every 2 days. I'm just tickled as I can be. I wasn't addicted to food -- heck there where just certain foods that I loved to eat as a child and they stayed attached to my behind. They are called hamburgers and french fries. I don't see any addictions coming my way -- other than spending to much time in the fitness center -- but if I do -- I'll let ya'll know. These people are still in denial -- the weight was second those addictions they are talking about now where first from the git go.
