New patient and member!

Hi everyone! I've been reading the forum and this looks like a great bunch of people to converse with. Saturday, I went to a Lap Band Seminar.. and decided that was a better option for me then the bypass. I had my first appointment today, and was told I meet the criteria for the procedure. I was also given a tentative date of May 1st for surgery. It was a bit overwhelming on the first day! But I'm happy!! I was told my insurance company will give yay or nay by next week. This is a quick turn-around.. don't you think?

It does seem very quick, but I guess it really depends on the combination of who the surgeon is, what insurance company you have, and what your overall health situation is. Either way, good luck with your journey! Jay

Hi Lori. Welcome to the forum. Some of the seminars and appointments we are required to attend can be so mind boggling not to mention downright scarey. After eachone I thought I can't do this. Luckily OH kept me on track. Here I am on the Losing Side and feeling better then I remember for years. Aime

Hi Lori, Welcome to the board! I see you are going to be with Dr Sofronski! Personally, I think he's the best choice of doctors but I think we all feel that way about our own doctor. I had RNY with him March 22, 2004 and the last 3 years have been like a gift to have my life back. Having a date of May 1 sounds about right for his practice. When I had my WLS, he only did surgeries on Mondays and every other Tuesday, I think his OR schedule has been expanded since Dr Bovard joined the practice. Best wishes as your WLS journey continues. Lori Welcome to the MD Board. You are right this is a great bunch of "Losers" (now we say it because it is a good thing) Everyone on here is very loving and supportive. Congrats on your surgery date. Te faster the better I think. Some wait for a long time to get approval and a date and personally I think that is more hard to go threw ten the surgery itself. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! This afternoon I confirmed my appointments for the blood work and the Upper GI. I think I'm still in shock that this is happening. I'm keeping my fingers crossed until next week when I hear the decision of the insurance company. :angst: I'm still trying to figure out the features here at the site... But I hope I get to chat with many of you soon.

I have quick Turn Around for you, My sister submitted all her paperwork to Aetna on March 12th, Aetna gave her the approval that day and she had surguery on March 26th. I on the other hand, am having to jump through hoops with United Health Care-I had to take a personality test.....Good Lord, what will they think of next....LOL Good Luck!!!
