Good Wednesday Morning!
Hi everyone!
Gonna be a longggg day in Pikesville - gotta work till 5, then I'm guest speaker at DVR's info session tonight at 6, which usually lasts until 7 or so, depending on how much I run my mouth!! Gary's house is being appraised for a refi tomorrow, so I'll be helping him tonight to get things in order. I also took off tomorrow to take care of any last minute things for him, but didn't tell him that because I don't want him to take a "bye" tonight and think he can slack off!!
I majorly overdid the sweet carbs this weekend, and was getting pretty disgusted with myself, so I committed to trying to eliminate the bad stuff. That was fine until yesterday afternoon, when they had a bday cake for me. But I did okay, and just had a small piece - all I really care about anyway is the frosting! Then for dinner, I had a salad with chicken and later on, when I wanted something sweet, I had a s/f popsicle and a glass of Splenda-sweetened Back Porch Iced Tea. So I did okay! And today's a new day! I'm committed to getting back on track, and as soon as this refi is over, my brother has GOT to get my treadmill put together!!! It's only been at his house since January!!
So what's on everyone's agenda? Make sure you get your protein in and all your fluids, vits, etc.!!
Have a great day!

Not everyone reacts to sweets the same way. I have a bad reaction to bread and pasta yet I can eat candy .. go figure .. .. Of course, I wish I had not discovered that and was 'scared' to try. I do get ill/sick if I overdo the rich sweet things so that is a plus and I do them in moderation.
Trust me, it's better not to experiment with carbs!!!
Hi Linda -
Well, first of all, not everyone gets sick from eating carbs, and the amount people can eat without getting sick seems to vary. The results and consequences of this surgery seem to be as varied as we are. Having said that, my "majorly overdoing" carbs is NOTHING compared to what I used to be able to eat. Like I said, my Mom made me a choc/choc cake, and pre-op, I would've had a huge chunk with ice cream, then I probably would've had another slice in the p.m. before bed, followed by a hunk the next morning after breakfast. In short, a two layer cake would've been gone pretty quickly. I get nauseous just thinking about it now. The amount that I can and do eat now is relatively little. I can't and don't gorge myself, and I can honestly say that I've never eaten too much of anything to become ill.
Having said that, I have dumped a couple of times - once from eating Splenda-sweetened banana bread and once from Starbucks adding full sugar vanilla syrup instead of s/f syrup. I find that I'm better off eating a little bit of good quality "bad stuff" as opposed to more s/f products as sugar alcohols don't seem to like me. Dumping syndrome is not the same as getting sick from having food stuck in the pouch because you didn't chew well or because you drank while you were eating. Dumping is more metabolic and it's effects can occur up to an hour after you've eaten the offending product - it kind of feels like when my blood sugar was out of whack - shaky, sweaty, irritable, etc. Stuck food syndrome occurs immediately, and the relief is instant once you force the food out or it passes.
It's all trial and error, and I don't usually push the envelope because I DON'T want to become ill. I didn't have this surgery to blow it all for nothing!
HTH,
Tia
Tia!!!
I've got a quick minute to post here. I'm in 'training' to be able to help out my staff since we are short-staffed. Any free time I might have had is going to be quickly eaten up by the helping out!!!!
Not much report other than 35 minutes of cardio at the gym this a.m. It is such a drag to get there but I do feel so much better after I have exercised and I am glad I've been able to put the gym into my regular routine.
