Dr Schweitzer - Johns Hopkins Bayview

I am scheduled to have surgery on April 3, 2007 with Dr Schweitzer. I am really nervous about having the surgery done. What type of complications have any of you guys experienced and how did you like Dr Schweitzer? Do any of you know what Johns Hopkins Bayview statistics are for WLS?

Hi Carol - I had lap rny on 8/2/05 with Dr. Von Rueden at GBMC. But I've heard nothing but good things about Dr. Schweitzer and Bayview. I basically had a complication free surgery and recovery - I did develop the ongoing period from hell, but that was from the massive weight loss as opposed to the surgery itself. My only regret is that I didn't have this surgery 20 years ago; it's truly been the best gift I could give myself. I'm sure everyone is waiting for me to answer your questions. I had my surgery with Dr Schweitzer on November 9 at Bayview. The surgery went very well, no complicatons to speak of. He is a very good doctor with the best reputation. He is so good he also teaches all over the world. He has a dry personality and is all business, but he is so great that I don't mind. I have seen him twice in the last 5 months for my check-ups and he is my hero. While you are in the hospital, don't hesitate to ask for anything. Carol congrats on your surgery date. I had my surgery with Dr Magnuson at Bayview so I never met Dr Sweitzer. But you are in good hands. There medical team is great. If you need anything dont hesitate to ask. We have all ben there and this is a great support group on this board

I had my lap DS with Dr. Schweitzer at Bayview last Sept. I have had a testbook recovery with not a single complication. You are in wonderful hands. Dr. Schweitzer is smart, skillful, and simply the best. Do get put on a waiting list for a private room though. You will want it after surgery. As others have said, I wish I had had the surgery years ago.

Hello Carol I had my surgery with Dr. Schweitzer Dec 2004. Ive losed 240 pounds he is awesome great physican and good staff. He's PA Pat will be your best friends she takes care of everything for you. I just finished my second round of plastic surgery 2 weeks ago. In August 2006 I had a lower body lift and 2 weeks ago a maxoplexy doing greAT going back to work Monday. you have no worry with Dr. Schweitzer hes the best of the best. Good luck to you. Linda

Carol, No worries with Schweitzer. He is a leader in his field and his resume shows it. I had my lap band placed by him on 9/14/06 and everything was smooth sailing. I'm way ahead of schedule for my weight loss as a bandster. 61 pounds in 6 months. The hospital staff and care was excellent and Schweitzer's staff is great. Pat Jordan (the NP) is the best. She talks to me like we've know one another for years. I have nothing but good things to say about Schweitzer. My husband was also banded by Schweitzer. If you'd like an angel I'm not far from Bayview. I could pop in to visit you if you like.
