Finally....

Good Wednesday morning. Just want to share a minor success. I've had a growing problem since I got home. Sleep. Well...lack of it. I always slept on my side. But after the surgery, it was uncomfortable to even try. When I got home, I was ok on my back for about 30 minutes, but then would get uncomfortable. The problem was, there was no other postion. If I turned on my side, I would get this unnerving shifting feeling and then start to feel sick. I would have to roll back. For obvious reasons, I did not want to try sleeping on my stomach. You always hear..."I woke up, but rolled over and went back to sleep". Imagine you could not roll over. Even if your back or legs or side or arm hurt. I was getting 15 - 30 minute cat naps for a total of about an hour or two each night. Finally...last night, after spending another night in the recliner taking my cat naps, I finally got into my bed. It was about 4:30am. I tried sleeping but almost immediately got uncomfortable and could not sleep. I sat up on the edge of the bed and almost fell asleep sitting there. Exhausted, I just sort of leaned over on my side, trapping my arm under my stomach. Amazed, the sickening sensation did not come. Within minutes I was asleep. I woke at about 6 (a full hour) and shifted to my back and went right back to sleep. When my wife got up at 6:30 I was able to roll to my side (with my arm back in place) and went back to sleep until I had to get up at 7. For the first time in about 4 nights, I am actually looking forward to bed time tonight! It's the little things right now! Hope everyone is have a great hump day! Dave

Hey Dave That is a milestone for sure to be able to sleep comfortably. I sort of slept on my side even in the hospital. The night nurse was nice enough to wedge a pillow behind me so that I wouldn't roll back onto my back and I had some semblance of sleeping comfortably. I always go to sleep on my side even now, but end up on my back! I should just learn to go to sleep on my back since I know I'll end up that way. Have a good day. Hugs, Mo

Dave, I hear you. For the first week I slept in the bed at an incline -- pretty much as if I was still in the hospital. Every once in awhile I'd shift to my left side because the drain was on the right side. Really we're not suppose to sleep on our stomachs at all because there is no support for our backs -- so good practice in sleeping on our backs. I'm a back or side person and sometimes I end up on my stomach -- which makes my back hurt and I try to shift from my stomach as soons as possible. Glad you're going to be able to sleep tonight. There isn't anything like your own

Hi Dave. I am glad you were able to get some sleep. I was in so much pain from the drain tube irritating my pancreas that I couldn't sleep either. Hopefully now you can catch up on your rest and get fully recovered. I promise that it does get better and soon you will feel human again. Hugs, Robin

Hi Dave I know the feeling. I am a side sleeper and stomach sleeper. It was hard but I got a body pillow at Target and rested my stomach on that and was able to sleep on my side. Still cat naps but longer ones each night. So glad you are getting sleep though

Glad you finally got some sleep. I know I can't function without my sleep. I become a mess. Sweet dreams, Aime
