I had my surgery August 2,2006. My weight was coming of fast and I weighed 299 going into surgery. I now weigh 246 and I feel as though nothing is happening. I lost 21 pds before surgery and this is really depressing me... I'm still taking diabetic medications and some other meds. 5 more months and will have been a year and I'm really upset with this! can anyone give me some advise or help?

Hi George, Sorry about your plateau. Have you spoken with your surgeon or nut regarding this matter? I don't know much about the VBG since I had RNY but your best bet would be to call them and see what they suggest. Maybe keeping a food diary to make sure you are eating the right things, getting in all your protein, fluids, etc might help you see if it's something you had changed or not. Also, check with your PCP to see if the meds you are still on could have an adverse effect on your weight loss. Wish I could be more helpful. Best of luck to you and keep us posted!!!! ~Heather

Heather, Great suggestion -- as well as asking about the meds. A friend of mine was on HBP meds and four days after the surgery she was still taking the meds and her BP took a nose dive and her surgeon told her to stop taking them and she hasn't had to take them since. Excellent though -- the meds could be impeding the weight loss as well. George I'd say consult all of your physicians -- starting with your surgeon.
