Please can anyone give me info on Crofton meetings?
Hi I am new to this site and am curious about Crofton meetings. I have thought about wls but am scared and dont know of any good doctors. I would like to attend some meeting and find out more info about bypass and lap band as well. I live in Crofton and it would be great to have a place to go that is close. Thanks. JulieB.
Welcome. I haven't attended the Crofton meetings as yet, but I have met some of the people that do. This is a great place to learn about wls. The Maryland group is awesome.
I had lap RNY 5 months ago. I am down 67 lbs already. I feel better then I can remember. My doctor was David von Ruedin at GBMC. We all refer to him as DVR affectionaltely.
I think the group will be metting at the end of the month. I'm certain you will get the specific date as soon as the Crofton folks wake and post.
Best of luck in your quest.
Aime
Hi Julie,
I don't have the date for the next Crofton meeting at hand, but I believe it will be early in April. They are held from 6 to 8 p.m. in one of the meeting rooms at the Crofton Library.
If you come to a few of the meetings you will meet one of the most fun and caring groups of women. We are at different stages in our journey, but we all have WLS in common and share a very strong bond. We have folks who are still 'thinking' about it as well as some who are very newly post op and then some like me who are several years out. We have all had different experiences .. some good .. some not so good .. but we are all happy to share!
In addition to the Crofton meetings, the Maryland board has a fairly active social group that tries to get together every 4 to 6 weeks to do something 'fun' .. lunch, shopping, bowling, etc. We move those around so that everyone gets a chance not to have to drive so far!
I hope you will come join us soon!
Hugs, Mo
Hello Julie,
The next Crofton Support Group meeting is Monday, April 2nd from 6pm to 8pm at the Crofton Library. There is a good mix of people...some preop, some just had the surgery and some more experienced with a year, two or three under their belt so to speak. The meetings will be a good source of info for you and you can ask about ANYTHING - everyone is very helpful.
I had my surgery July 6, 2006 and have lost about 110 lbs so far. My surgeon was Dr Schweitzer at John Hopkins Bayview which is really just a short jaunt up Rt 97. He does a great job in the operating room, but then afterwards I've dealt mostly with his PA Pat. Dr Schweitzer isn't into the whole post-op thing - or at least that has been my experience.
Good Luck with your research and we'll see you next month.
Sue
Julie,
just an idea for you. Tonight /Afternoon really at 4:30 there is the INFORMATION session followed immediatly by the post-op support group at Johns Hopkins Bayview. This session is currently scheduled for the 2nd Tuesday of every other month (March, May, July) at 4:30P-5:30P in the John Hopkins Bayview Pavilion Conference room.
The Bariatic surgery support groups are on the 2nd Tuesday of the month (5:30P-630P) and 3rd Thursday of the monty (5:00P-6:00P)
It happens that THIS week that is TODAY and Thursday are support groups. Since my surgery will be on Friday - I plan on attending BOTH - to get that extra push off from the group!!
Hope you can make one or the other... I am just THRILLED with the entire Johns Hopkins program.

Hi Julie,
I'm new at the Crofton meetings - I am one of the gals that is thinking about the surgery. Well I'm know in the beginning stages... went to the docs seminar, met with the doc and now waiting to see if my insurace is going to approve me. Anyway the gals in the group are awesome.... FUN Group ;-D The first step I took besides a support group was to go to my doctos seminar. My doctor is Dr. William Roe (Baltimore Bariatrics) located in Towson (exit 29 off the beltway). He hold seminars every other Thursday from 2pm - 4pm and they are very informative. He will do my surgery at GBMC.
Hope to see you at our next meeting.
Kathy
