I have Blue Choice which will not cover surgery for obesity....I found some posts on here that said Aetna covers the cost......does anyone know what type of policy it is? I have researched, cried, and screamed for the last year and a half, with no luck. If anyone has any suggestions, please answer my cry for help.

Hi Heather I'm sorry you are going threw this. have you looked at the insurance forums on her? You can see what others have gone threw hat have the same insurance you do. I remember someone telling me that it is a MD law that if you meet the requirments for wls your insurance has to cover it. It may be alot to go threw but to me it would be worth it. I wish you the best of luck and keep us posted kelly

As I understand ins must only cover if you work in a company with over 50 employees. I have fought to get ins and can not get it. I have been fighting to get ins for surgery or some help to get this done and i must fight on. i have written the president, both state senators, the governor. its like my daddy said the loudest wheel gets oiled first.

Hi Heather, I have Care First Blue Choice and they covered my surgery in 2006. I'm not sure if the Care First makes the difference but I didn't have to fight my insurance company at all. My surgeon's office submitted my paperwork and I was approved in about a week. Check the insurance boards and see what they say. Have you spoken with Customer Service at BC? I'm sorry you are having so many difficulties with this, the insurance part can be the hardest part. Take care and wishing you all the best in getting this taken care of! ~Heather

Heather, that is what I have, however I work for a non-profit, and I am the only insured.....in the Md.law it states something about non-profits....but I do not understand the law...... I had a visit with Dr.Magnesun @ Hopkins Bayview in November, my pcp and Magnesun said surgery was a medical neccessity, however in a week I was denied. I have allowed this to deter me.....depression is a b****! But I am determined........ ~Heather

Have you and the surgeons office filed an appeal?

Unfortunatly I did not.....and I do not believe Dr. Magnesun's office did either........and this was in November. Initially I was soooo depressed I kinda hid from reality and just cried my eyes out......now I know I have to fight!
