CIRA UPDATE!!!
Okay, I just talked to her - in case anyone's wondering, she "forgot" to tell us that her last name is hyphenated, hence the hard time we had finding her.
She says DVR is going to release her today - she's happy about that. But extremely unhappy with the level of care from the night nurses. Especially last night, she was getting an IV of potassium, which was supposed to be diluted with another IV, but that IV was clogged, so she was getting straight potassium, which burned like the dickens. Poor thing! She's really been through it. Hopefully, coming home will help - although it's not a short ride for her - hopefully it will be uneventful. She did express her displeasure to DVR, and I've no doubt that he'll address it.
I have her direct phone number in her hospital room, so if anyone wants it, pm me. I know she was waiting for the nut/nurse from DVR's office to come in and kind of give her some instructions, but she may have a few minutes to chat.
She says thanks for the all the well wishes! She can't wait to see us!

Tia thanks for the update. I have her home number so i am going to call her over he weekend. I know when i got home I was so happy and I had night nurse issues too at my hospital. I know her pain with that. So glad she is coming home today. She lives near me so i may go visit her when she feels up to it if anyone is going or wants to come along.
Thanks again tia

I am glad she gets to come home today. That is crazy about the night nurses and the long wait. I am using GBMC, as well and I am going to see if my hubby can spend the night with me so he can get someone if I need them and have him help me walk the halls.
What would have happened if she couldn't breathe or something more serious.
Very scary.

Oh, I remember the potassium drip so well. Felt like my hand was on fire. Very painful! The nurse said some people react, others don't. They always try without letting you know, and then wait for the outcome. Yikes! Wi**** had worked, because the only other option was to drink it. Yuck!! Glad to hear that she's going home soon. Know she'll feel better then.

I think somehow we need to inform dvr and GBMC about the level of care at night. I, too, had night nurse issues. I realize they may be operating with a somewhat reduced staff, but that is no excuse for poor care.
I spoke with Cira yesterday afternoon. She sounds wiped out. She was still experiencing the gas pain. I hope she was able to find some comfort during the night.
I told her it was a good thing I couldn't find her as I would have been all over that Nurse's station demanding she receive quality care. Her experience makes me livid. We have a top notch surgeon, a top notch surgical staff, and then **** poor night nurses. I think they bank on people "not wanting to be a bother".
Sounds like a mission to me.

I'm one of the great lurkers but thought I'd jump in. 'Glad Cira is doing better. She always seems so upbeat and positive. I also used GBMC. My Dr. is Dr. Roe his office staff is wonderful but I also had my issues with the hospital. My daughter spent the two nights I was there with me (hubby not the hospital type) which was a great help, but I didn't find the hospital staff good at all. Have a great day and weekend.
