Hi, my name is Jeff Bassett, and I work for IBM in Gaithersburg Md. I just got my surgery date (March 16) and now, I am somewhat anxious and nervious. Not about the surgery itself, but about the recovery afterwards. I am having Open RnY at Johns Hopkins Bayview with Dr. Thomas Magnuson. Just wanted to introduce myself. I am sure I will be asking questions here shortly.

Hi Jeff! Welcome to the MD boards! Great group here and someone always seems to have an answer or words of wisdom. I had open RNY on October 3, 2006 and it was the best decision of my life! I couldn't be happier and am getting my life back. Congratulations on your upcoming surgery and new lease on life! We'll keep a seat on the Loser's Bench warm for you! Take care! ~Heather

Hi Jeff, I just got out of Bayview for a DS 4 weeks ago tomorrow. I can answer any hospital questions you may have. I do know that my surgeon's Nurse is the same as yours. Her name is Pat Jordan. I think while i was at JH there were a couple Dr. M patients there as well. Kristina (recovery = less stressful than the approval process in my book)

Hi Jeff, Welcome to the Maryland Board! I had open RNY almost 3 years ago (3/22/04). I don't think I am an oddity in the fairly quick recovery (even though it was open). I was back to work in two weeks (an office job). I worked part time (about 4 hours/day) the first week back, the second week back I was up to 6 hours/day and by the 3rd week I was full time without a problem. I firmly believe that a key to recovery is building up on protein pre-op, following your doctor's instructions post op and of course, a positive mental attitude. Best wishes as your WLS journey continues. Hugs, Mo

Hi Jeff and welcome to the boards. I had my surgery with Dr Magnuson July 10th 2006 and he is great. No complications and recovery was great. Only used my pain button for the first 2 days and when they sent me home i took it the first 2 nights just incase I woke up in the middle of the night. But No problems at all. You are in good hands. I wish you the best in your journey and any questions you have dont hesitate. Like others said everyone has been through it and has answers or words of wisdom that are helpful. Keep us updated on your progress Kelly

Hey Jeff - Welcome!! We're always looking for a few good men!!! Oh, sorry....that's the Marines!!! Anyway, we're always glad to see new faces. Ask all the questions you like - if we can't give you a serious answer, we'll be happy to supply stupid, sarcastic ones just for the humor factor!!! A friend of mine had Dr. M and RAVES about him!! Good luck on this life-changing journey! Teresa (Tia)
