Hospital Question....
Hi All,
I have a question for you guys (mostly the ones that are post op), that came to mind as I read a post on my anniversary board. The original question was what are you bringing to hospital? I saw a multitude of responses, and they generated my question.
Are you in any mood or shape to worry about having magizines, books, laptops, etc with you? Did anyone get bored while they were in the hospital after surgery?
Just wondering if I need to rethink my plan...
Thanks,
Dave
Hi Dave,
I had a lot of suggestions from people to take a book, chapstick, a throw pillow, and comfortable sweats and slip on shoes to go home in. I never touched the book but used everything else. The pillow was my best friend for the ride home and I used it when getting up and down from bed and walking the halls. Also...this may be TMI but I picked up a pair of tongs at the dollar store. They were my other best friend for wiping after going to the bathroom since it was too hard to do it the 'normal' way.
Hope this helps!

Hi Dave,
I took a book, but never opened it. I was kinda out of it hitting that pain pump as much as possible. I do remember watching some TV and listening to the radio though. I didn't even get to the p****il I was home for like 2 days. I was not bored in the hospital, but just couldn't get comfortable. It's pretty bad when the most comfortable chair/place to sit in the room is the potty chair
Take Care,
Terry

I had a book and other things to occupy me and to be honest I watched TV and walked the halls BUT .. the chapstick is your best friend ... if you forget everything else .. remember the chapstick!!!
Hugs, Mo
p.s. I did take a phone card to make calls from my room but I was in Salisbury and all my calls were long distance
Hi Dave
I wore yoga pants and a t-shirt to the hospital because I planned on wearing it home (less to pack and less to have in the room). I brought my own pillow so that I was sure I was comfortable. I wore glasses instead of contacts, brought lip balm, and made sure I slept whenever I had the chance and got up to walk as soon as I was able. I was only an overnight stay, but my own pillow really helped. I watched a little TV, but if you are staying for a few days you might want to bring a book or something to keep you occupied.

i looked through a couple of the mags i had with me.... i had surgery on a thurs and was released Sun morning. By Saturday i was getting bored...
i really enjoyed my mp3 and the chapstick though....
Never needed the tongs (guess i'm flexible) but the hospital would have given me a device if i thought i needed one.
A laptop and wireless card would have been great but we don't have one.

The only personal item I used, besides my going home clothes -- which were the same ones I brought with me -- was my book. I am a bookworm don'****ch much TV. But I was really "out of it" most of the time. I really could not concentrate enough to play a video game and certainly had no need for a laptop.
Hi Dave,
Glad you posted this question. I was thinking of taking my laptop but I think I decided against it. I did pack a magazine in case I was just to flip the pages. I am definitely not taking a book since I hate pain and I will be dizzy with the morphin drip. lol
I did pack a chap stick, a pillow, a bath robe to cover my behind when I walk the halls. The nurse suggested to use the hospitasl gown easier for changing with the IV and drain tube. I did take some toiletries and my own tooth brush and toothpaste.
Take care
Cira
