Morning, I wanted to come out and just ask this, since I wrote about dumping and discovered from a few of you that I was not really dumping. I am a few days past two months out, and I can barely tolerate much of anything still. I was on liquids two months before surgery and a month after, the next month, I got soft cheeses and seafood and eggs. Well folk I could not get any of it down! Now its two months out, and I still cant eat eggs, I can tolerate cottage cheese, cant eat any type of seafood. The doctor now says I can have vegables and chicken. I can barely eat a spoonful of food, some day I get it down some day it comes right back up. I chew and chew but the crazy part it I even went to the blender to help grind it up. as soon as I swallow, the food, hurts going down and then just sits there, but then my stomach starts to convulse, then eventually it would come back up. cant do grits, potatoes, any of the mushy stuff. Strange thought I cant tolerate small amounts(about a spoon or two of cold slaw, I can eat a few potato chips, but thats bad, I can eat olives but that is where it ends. I end up doing protein drinks, and soup to survive. Please tell me it will get better, I am not dying but I worry about not getting enough in. I double and triple up on vitamins and such. Also is there any sort of non starchy bread we can eat? I need wisdom from the experienced!

Sounds like you have a very small opening either into or out of your pouch or both. This can make it difficult to get foods down. If everything hurts going down you should really call your doctor and ask him if you should get checked out. In the meantime, blend everything so that it is the consistency of what you can eat without pain. It will take time, but it sounds like you need to check with your doc too. I can't eat any milk products (milk, cream, ice cream) but I can usually tolerate yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese, & sour cream. I was not ever lactose intolerate before surgery but seem to have it now. Don't get in the habit of eating the chips. You are right, they are not good for you. I would imagine that if you can barely tolerate cottage cheese then you won't be able to tolerate any kind of bread. I still have trouble with bread. (hurts my pouch) I don't do eggs either. Grits made me sick but I can do oatmeal. Hang in there. Call your doctor and keep up the protein drinks and vitamins. Hugs, Robin PS. yes it does get better. I finally felt like a real person again at about 3 months out.

You need to talk to your doctor and your nutritionist about your eating issues. It does take time. Some foods our pouches are just not ready to eat so soon after surgery. Aime
