New to this...
Well, I am in Maryland.. Calvert County to be exact. I have not had my WLS yet... still in the process of getting it approved. My surgeon will be Dr. Kalan, he is out of GW in DC. I met with him last Monday, and I have my appt for my mental health eval on this Tuesday, as well as my physical with my PCP. Now, I did call my insurance company, and they said I need to have 6 mos Dr. supervised diet, or 2 3 month stints with Weigh****chers or Jenny Craig. I have done MANY diets in the last 3 years... just none were really Dr. supervised (with weigh ins and all). Does anyone have any advice for me? Does anyone else on here have my Dr? This is just all new to me, so it's a bit overwhelming.
Thanks for whatever help you can provide!!

Hi and Welcome,
I had my surgery 4 months ago with Dr. Christina Li at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore. My insruance company also requested 6 months supervised diet and I used my weigh in booklets from weigh****chers, I had about a years worth and heres the joke of all that is I weighed more when I left Weigh****chers then when I started. Glad I kept all those little books. All that is needed to be done is overwhelming and at times I thought this is just to much but I kept going. Just do everything they ask and know that you are in for the ride of your life. Everyone on this board will tell you they would do it again. We are all here to talk to you and we are all behind you. Any questions post them here. I'm sure you will find somebody who had your doctor and will love to talk to you about their experiences. Good Luck.

Kelly,
What I did was get a letter in support from all of my doctors (primary, endocrinologist, GYN) that explained that they supported my choice for the surgery (I am banded) and that weight loss would alleviate or completely cure my diabetes, high BP, arthritis, and polycystic ovary disease. THey also noted that they were aware that I tried many diets and that I was always a compliant patient to whatever they suggested. On top of these I made a spreadsheet that listed what diets I have ever been on, how long I tried them, how much I lost/if I lost, how long I kept it off, all of my medications and what they were for. Basically document all that you know that you have done. I did Weigh****chers, NutriSystem, Atkins, Protein Power, TOPS, Pritkin and others on my own. Nothing worked because nothing ever satisfied my hunger. Now that I eat much less I'm losing.
