In the home stretch but a little scared.
Hi everyone,
I am all set for my surgery it's on this coming Friday 1/26. I can't believe it, time has really flown by. I have all my protein shakes, vitamins, clear liquids etc...
I am very excited but also a little scared. I have never had a procedure this serious before and I am afraid of getting sick after the anesthesia. When I met with the anesthesia nurse she went over the type of pain medicine that I will get afterwards. I have had narcotics before and although the pain goes away the nausea an vomiting are not worth it.
I get sick as a dog when given narcotics and the thought of possibly vomiting after having my stomach cut is scaring the hell out of me! They did give me pepcid and reglan to take the night before and the morning of. The nurse said that this should help.
Do any of you veterans out there have any advice or experience you can share. I now I should hear both sides but I'd rather only hear the good experiences at this point please!
Hi Debbie,
I had no problems at all (other than itching from the pain meds). I think as long as your anesthesiologist is aware of your problems with nausea, etc., they should be able to do something so to prevent it.
I would just say take a deep breath and know that we're all thinking/praying/sending positive vibes for you and wishing you a complication free surgery and recovery. I kept waiting to get nervous before my surgery and it NEVER happened. I was certain about my choice and I had faith in my doctor. Try not to worry, it'll be okay.
Take Care,
Terry
I usually get sick from the meds too, but I told the doctor and they put something in the IV before the surgery to prevent the nausea and it worked. The pain meds didn't make me sick, but I did itch like a dog with fleas! I didn't need pain meds after the 2nd day! Good luck with the surgery and I look forward to reading good news after your surgery!
