Trouble with chicken and not wanting to eat.
Hi everybody,
I have been quiet for way too long-mostly dealing with pain issues and just trying to keep going. Has anyone had any trouble with chicken? I seem to be able to eat grilled chicken in ceasar salad in restaurants. I usually eat thighs(more moist) and even when i bake them, they really hurt my stomach. I don't get it. I can eat beef with no problem but not chicken!!!! Go figure. Input appreciated.
Has anyone actually lost interest in eating? I can't believe it's happened to me but a lot of days lately, I just don't care whether or not I eat. That is new to me, believe me...
Julie
Hi Julie
We have missed you at the meetings and just wondering how you are doing. I am so glad you posted and to know that you are ok. I don't have problems with chicken. Ii think if I eat it anymore my chicken wings will pop out. LOL. Do you cut it up really small? Well Just to let you know our next meeting is February 5th at the Crofton Library on Reidel road from 6-8 p.m. I will post something when it gets closer. I hope you can come we all would love to see you. Glad to see ou back online.
Take care
Kelly
Julie. If I had to guess I'd say you had your surgery about 5 months ago. I went through about a month of not wanting to eat anything but did because I had to. I suspect that that will continue from time to time from now on, but for right now I've gotten back into cooking a little bit.
They say slow cooking chicken in a crock pot keeps it nice and soft. I haven't had too many problems with it. Keep at it.

Hi Julie! Glad to see you posting. Chicken is very fickle with me. Sometimes smooth sailing, sometimes major bumps in the road. I do not know what the trick is. Can't stand when it does not agree with me. Wish I could give you some secret for tolerating it, but I'm drawing a blank. Sorry your still dealing with the pain issue. I am keeping you in my prayers that this too shall pass. Take it easy.

Hi Julie
Sorry you are having problems ... I wish I had some magic answer for you, but even at almost 3 years out chicken and I STILL have one of those love/hate relationships. I never know exactly how my pouch is going to react to chicken.
I'm taking a poll on having a 'tea party outing' at Retro Tea in Bowie either the weekend of Jan 20/21 or 27/28 if you can make it (their website is www.retrotea.com if you want to check it out).
Hope you get feeling better!!!
Hugs, Mo
Hi Julie -
At almost 18 months out, chicken is STILL not my friend. Having said that, if I eat it in salad, I'm okay, tacos, I'm okay, chicken parm, I'm okay - but give me a grilled chicken breast and !!! In fact, beef and pork sometimes do the same thing, and then sometimes not!! I think the key is lubrication!!! Dressing in the salad helps it slide, tomato sauce, too. Gravy doesn't work for me, though. It's a roll of the dice - you might want to keep a log of what/when it bothers you. But keep trying - the funny thing about this surgery is that what bothers you one day may not the next, and vice versa. It's all trial and error.
I can't really say that I've lost interest in eating (I wish), because I'm still dealing with some emotional eating/stress issues, but it's certainly not as intense as pre-op. Just take each day as it comes, and be kind to yourself.
Hope you're soon pain free!!! Would love to see you at tea!

Hi Linda -
Initially, I had a hard time with scrambled eggs; I think it's their pebbly texture. As long as I didn't make them too dry and put salsa (lubricant) on top, they slid down pretty well. For the first few months post-op, soft-boiled went down much better.
Also, if you like Italian, try making an omelette, using ricotta as a filling, and putting spaghetti sauce and provolone cheese on top. Yummy and slidy!!!
I'd keep on giving them a try - remember, what your pouch doesn't like today, it may tomorrow - and vice versa!!!!
HTH,
Tia
