My surgery is on Jan 10th and I'm so scared. I have 3 children 9, 5, and 2, and a husband. I know it's natural to worry. How did anyone do on the day before surgery diet? Clear fluids and the fleet ___??? I'm so nervous that I will be starving the whole day and break down. My surgery is at Greater Baltimore Medical Center. Did anyone use that hospital? Any helpful tips? Thanks Happy 2007 to Everyone, Marcy

Marcy, calm down and take some deep breaths. Feeling nervous is normal. Operations and anesthesia are scary things. Continuing to live (or not really living) with the weight is also scary. You've chosen a path to better yourself so that you can be around for you kids as they grow-up to be adults. I don't think you'll regret it. My life has made a total turn-around since surgery. Mobility has increased, energy has increased, meds have vanished, co-morbidities have vanished - life is good. I ate what I chose to for more than half of what my life span will be. Now it's time to eat right, whether I want to or not. I morn food, but know that my decision to have WLS was the best thing that I could have done for myself. Please email me. I'll check it this PM and ship you my number. If you need to talk, don't hesitate. We live pretty close to each other, and I may be able to be of some support. P.S. The pre-surgery day diet went fine. I was so ready, plus the crap they gave me to drink totally wiped out my desire to eat. I was so queasy. Probably from nerves and the drink. Yuck!! I remember it to this day. Best of luck, don't stray from your Docs orders. Everything will go fine. TraciL

Hey Neighbor!!!! I almost lost my nerve to have surgery 2 weeks before my date. It was after I had gone to the class. All I could think was "I can't do this!" Luckily, some of the material I was given directed me to this website. The people here shored me up and held my hand til surgery day. I had my Lap RNY October 12th two days after my 50th birthday. I can't say that prep was was wonderful. The stuff is meant to clean you out and it does. It isn't the end of the world, but it isn't pleasant. I arrived at GBMC with a book in hand to await my time for surgery. Everyone was wonderful. I have had many procedures in a variety of the local hospitals. I found the surgery center at GBMC to be one of the best. Rest assured that you will be in the best of hands and that you will be treated with the upmost respect. I, too, am more than willing to talk to you personally. Drop me an email and I will send you my number. I'd stop in to visit you on the 10th, but you will most likely not be ready for visitors. I am going in to have my 3 month checkup in the afternoon. I am 50 lbs lighter and feeling like I have a new life! Hugs, Aime

Marcy, Nervous/scared are normal. You'll be just fine. My LapBand was done at Hopkins, but all of my other docs are at GBMC. It is a wonderful hospital. My c-section was done there and my aunt worked there for over 20 years. You will be just fine and if you need anything you just TELL them. They are paid to take care of you while you are there. If you need anything let us know.

Ask anyone who knows me or read my posts, I had my surgery Nov 9 and I was scared out of my mind. One thing that worked for me was to keep telling myself "You can do this" I even said it in the pre-op! Calm down and think good thoughts, especially of how much your health will improve and how much better you are going to feel. I will say a prayer for you and will be thinking of you!!! Please let us know how you are doing after surgery.
